staying awake

How long are your LO's staying awake?  I can get about an hour and 15 minutes out of Jack before he starts getting cranky. If I wait any longer to put him down for a nap he is a bear. I was thinking it should be increasing by now?

Re: staying awake

  • J stays awake for an 1.5 - 2 hours at a time. There are days though were he will be awake for 3 - 4 hours at a time. When he has those longer awake days the next day he will play catch up from all the sleep he missed out on from the day before.

  • Anywhere from 1-2 hours, usually, and that includes if she is awake and alert while eating (sometimes she sleep-eats even during the day).

  • I just follow her lead. If I try to put her down when she first yawns, I'm usually trying in vain. But then she gets overtired and all hell breaks loose. I'm at a loss and really hoping to see improvement soon.

I've heard that yawning is actually a late sleepy cue. Reduced activity, less focus, droopy eyes are earlier cues. That said, I only ever notice the yawn myself.

  • My baby is usually up from 1 to 2 hours but sometimes can be awake for up to 4. As a rule if she is up 4 hours she is pretty grumpy by that time and I am probably walking her all over to keep her happy. There are tines after being awake for 2 hours she will sleep 10-15 minutes and stay awake another couple hours. Her awake and sleepy times aee still shifting around quite a bit.

You all are lucky! R wakes up for the day around 9am and maybe takes 3 or 4 20-40 minute cat naps during the day. Today she was up from 9:30 to 2:30. At least she is happy sitting in her bouncer and watching me while I do chores and talk to her.
