What scares you still (NBR)

When I was little I HATED horror movies, but, since meeting my now husband I grew to like them.  Dating for 9yrs will do that LOL.  A conversation w/@amberdb72 about what horror movies we liked got me to thinking, what horror movies to this day still scare the fluck out of me, but I still like and watch repeatedly.

In no particular order

Darkness Falls
The Thing
The Haunting (1999)
Lost Boys (My forever teen crush Haim)
Evil Dead
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Forgot to add - Zombieland

What are your favorite horrors that still scare you, but, you watch over and over anyway?

Not a horror movie, BUT I can't watch it without nightmares for weeks, ET scares the bloody hell out of me!!!  I can't explain it, I'm an adult and terrified of that movie!!!

  • I don't like most horror movies now though I used to watch them all the time when I was a preteen/teen. I think the Freddy ones always scared me the most. There was a scene in one where he shoved a q-tip all the way through some kid's head, and I don't think I'll ever get that image out of my head.

Oddly enough though, the only move I can remember that actually gave me nightmares was Care Bears Movie II. Something about Dark Heart as that red wolf gave me repeated nightmares when I was a kid... :)

Nightmare was the first horror I ever saw and it was the one where Freddy's hand came up out of the bed and threw the kid, from that day forward I've never slept on my back.  LOL  I hated horrors after that.  I think the movie that scared me the most when I was a child though was Something Wicked This Way Comes.
  • The first one that terrified me was Poltergeist. To this day, I cannot handle having a tree outside of my bedroom window. Also the old man in that movie scares me,and so does Paris Hilton because she looks like him. 8-X

  • Can you believe I've never watched Poltergeist all the way through, can't do it.  The creepy doll clown scares the poop out of me every time.  And then it seems like everyone of the actors died of cancer.  Please don't ever show me that Paris Hilton pic again, I may have nightmares tonight, lol.
House Of Wax with Paris Hilton scares me, not because the movie is scary, it's not, it sucks, but, because the actors playing brother and sister (Elisha Cuthburt and Chad Murray) did a better job acting like they wanted to get it on more than they did acting like a brother and sister.

Hey @amberdb72 why don't you go and see what's in my basement.  I think I hear your name being called.   8-X

  • It's not really all that scary, but The Ring freaks me out. Or, honestly, any horror movie/thriller with a child main character. It's creepy.

    DH is the same way!

I am a nerdy fantasy buff. I read any and all books about vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches, any mythological creature really. But I'm not so brave when it comes to watching the movies. I am terrified of zombies, like shit my pants terrified.
Movies that scare me but I still watch are
    Darkness Falls
American werewolf in London and Paris.
    The howling movies
Sleeping with the enemy (hey it's creepy)
    28 days later
    The scream movies
    The woman in black
    Gothika

Same idea but ones I like that don't really scare me
    The underworld series (my favorite!)
    Van helsing

  • @prncebride,I'm going to have to decline your invitation to your basement at this time,I um...have to wash my hair. @Fullcircle06, have you seen The Grudge? That kid scared me. I also do not like things that crawl around and try to kill me,so there's that. Kids are spooky.

I think any movie where a kid calls his mother by the first name is a creepy kid and what parent lets them.  Hahahah

  • @amberdb72, the Grudge is super creepy! I especially hate the ones where the kid is the villain (i.e the Omen)...

  • The St Fransisville experiment, never heard of it, must watch it, now.   Oh, the Skeleton Key is pretty creepy too.

  • I love horror movies..in fact, we love Halloween so much that DH and I have worked at a haunted farm for the past 5 years. I can't say that any movie scares me, but I love "Devil's Rejects", "Hannibal",  and Rob Zombie's "Halloween".

It's an Indy movie, college kids go to a haunted house, filmed like a documentary/reality show, chaos ensues. Scared the crap out of me, my two sisters, and a few of my friends. I used to host a Movie night with a bunch of girls from my old salon when DH was deployed. We watched the most ridiculous movies.

Hubs loves Halloween, and every year we go out to haunted houses and we have NE Spooky World here, anyway, a couple of years ago we went to a in-door haunted house and as we were waiting in line I saw what i thought was electronic child dragging across the ground, I realized as it got closer it was a real child (of course part of the house), it creep the fluck out of me!

I'm thinking for lo's first Halloween, as long as hubs agrees too, I want to dress lo up at as a zombie bride using her Christening gown.
  • Oh Boy!!! My little sister and I LOVE scary movies. We have date nights where we watch them because my husband hates them! There are way too many to name BUT I cannot watch It. The Stephen King movie. Oh my god I hate clowns because of this movie. My grandpa was a huge scary movie buff and I think that's why I like them. but It did me in. I always remember that little paper boat thing going down the gutter. I don't know why I remember that and it's been 20 years since I've seen it lol.

Gothika is one that creeped me out but I still watch, The Ring, The Grudge. They are all scary but we like them,. We'll rent some really obscure ones too to see if they're any good.

Aside from It, I cant watch the Saw movies. I watched the first one and there was something about it that made me feel like it was too real. I refused to watch any more.

  • @perfectlove09 "They all float down here."  IT scares me too, it's one of my hubs favorite movies though.  He can't watch Salem's Lot though, and I don't find Salem's all that scary.
  • @prncebride there was someone on the Bump that had that stupid clown in their siggy. I can't remember who it was but when I would bump from my computer I'd actually scroll down past it super fast lol
I don't remember watching Salem's Lot which is weird.

  • @perfectlove09, I remember that siggy, I don't remember who either.  I don't really like clowns either or balloons.  When I was a kid I remember having this fear that if I held too many balloons it could float me away LMAO.

Salem's Lot the 1979 one not the 2004.

DD actually gets to have 2 costumes this year and I'm having such a hard time deciding. Our haunted attraction is closed on Halloween this year b/c our boss thinks it's the last year his kids will be young enough to trick-or-treat so we'll have 1 costume for Halloween and then the next night we'll be at Disney World for a Halloween party so she'll get to be something else that night...but I have so many idea and I don't know how I'll ever just pick 2...would it be weird to dress DD up for like a week around Halloween, lol??

I asked hubs what he thought of the zombie bride and he was thinking Bride Of Chucky hahahaa
  • The first scarey movie that scared the crap out of me was pet semetary. The dead guy with the brains hanging out, then creepy little Gage. I love scarey movies but that was the first one that scared me so bad, keep in mind I was young when I watched that one! Lol

Pet, again another movie I haven't seen because it came out when I was younger and I hated horror movies as a kid. I really don't want to make up for lost horror movie time heheeh. Have you've seen Cat People, that movie freaky/scary.

Aghh NOT Cat People, although hubs likes this movie, I didn't care for it.  I MEANT Sleepwalkers.

Be prepared to be icked out.  I realized I meant Sleepwalkers, not Cat People.  Both movies are based around cat people.

  • Aghh! Pet Sematary had me beyond scared. Friggin Gabe and that sister of the wife,AGHHHH!

This is not the first movie that scared me but the movie Mirrors still has me avoiding my reflection at night. Has anyone seen this? It's been years and I'm seriously still scared.

I actually hate scary movies and I thought it was dumb when I was watching it which is why I watched the whole thing, but after the movie was over it made me run past mirrors at night. The idea of my reflection moving is freaky.

  • It scared the bejezzious out of me for most of my childhood. Only now I am kind of ok with it because I found out that the clown is played by Tim Curry who I love. I'm pretty much a chicken though and don't often watch horror movies. DH and my first date was to go see Mirrors and about five minutes into the movie I was done and spent the next hour and a half with my head buried into his chest.  :-O

There is just one thing though that scares the crap out of me IRL and thats looking out a window in the dark. I'm always afraid a face will be there staring back at me ::shudders::
