Crazy bug bite

Our babysitter text me today at work wondering about a lump on my sons head that she thought appeared to be a bug bite...when I got home, I realized that its a huge lump sticking out of the side of his head that's red and he can't stop itching it. The sitter suggested children's Benadryl but I haven't done it yet bc of how young he is (16 months)...we have rubbed some hydrocortisone cream for now. Any other suggestions or reason to be going to a doctor or anything?

My daughter's bug bites are awful too.  I have used Hydrocortisone, but I really like this product called AfterBite for Kids.  It seems to work immediately to ease the itch.  I also use Benedryl if the itch seems to keep her up at night.  She's 18 months, and my pedi said that's completely fine.

  • We had to break out the Benadryl two weeks ago for an allergic reaction. Even if you don't use it for the bug bite, it might not hurt to call your pedi and find out what dosage to give based on your LO's weight in case you do have an allergy emergency.
