Registry Question...

Whaoh! I guess it's been awhile since I've been on, things are looking different around here!

Forgive me if this is a repeated question, I'm not on often. I'm working on my registry and it is just so overwhelming. I am to the point of adding clothing and don't know where to start. I have a registry checklist that has how much of each thing I need, but nothing tells you how much of each item at each age to register for. Any tips?

Also, for STMs, are there any items that you were really happy that you had or things you didn't end up needing?

Thanks so much!

Re: Registry Question...

  • I didn't register for any clothing because I figure it is one of those things people pick up anyway.  Also, I can't imagine someone going to a huge store like babies r us and looking through all those racks to find an outfit I requested.  That store is always being moved around.

  • I wouldn't add clothing. People are going to buy you clothes they think are cute all on their own doing. And clothing items are constantly being marked down, sold out, not available in every store etc, so it will be pointless. Sleepers, yes. Outfits, no. I had 6 NB sleepers for DD1 and I will probably pick up more for DD2 since that's all she lived in for a long while.

  • As far as clothing... I just added socks, hats, mittens and body suits. I skipped on all outfits and 'actual clothes' for baby. I'm assuming that a lot of people will buy these anyhow. I didn't ask for a ton of those items since I'm guessing people will see them and then just buy. I may be wrong, but we'll see I guess!

  • I did not put clothes since people will buy then anyway.  I did put a couple hats, some mittens, socks, and a couple sleep sacks.

I didn't put any clothing other than a set or two of short sleeve plain white onesies on my registry. With the onesies, I only registered for the 0-3 month size. I had sooo many clothes after my shower, it was kind of ridiculous.

ETA: The things I couldn't live without were the Snugabunny Swing and the Rock 'n Play Sleeper. The things I didn't use were the Bumbo and the Diaper Genie.

  • I registered for a few outfits but mostly the white onesies with the cuffs as mittens. I registered for 0-3 and 3-6 month in those.

The clothing you register for now will likely be gone, moved, or on clearance by the time people start to shop for your shower. I registered for basics that are constantly restocked, like socks, onesies, snap t-shirts, and sleepers. But that was it as far as clothing goes. I agree with PPs that people will buy what they think is cute anyway, most likely on top of a necessity from your registry. (That's what I typically do, anyway.)

I just registered for basic bodysuits and a few sleep sacks, swaddlers, etc. I definitely kept the clothing part short and sweet.

  • Don't register for clothing - I just had my shower and have probably over 100 onesies from the event.  I don't know what it is - but people love to buy baby clothes.  So much for things the LO will really need!
