Blanket in crib?

DS is 13 months old and sleeps with just a little lovey for naps and bedtime. At a year we put his favorite (small) stuffed animal in there too. I'm wondering if it's "ok" to put a small baby blanket in there over him too. I know as soon as he rolls over, the purpose of the blanket will be out the window as he doesn't know how to cover himself up, but it's been in the 50s at night here the last couple nights and it gets cool in his room. I've already got him in fleece pjs! Does anyone else put a small blanket in the crib to try to help LO stay warm?

Re: Blanket in crib?

  • Our pedi said it was fine at a year old. But like you said, it doesn't do much to keep her warm since she rolls all over the place, but she likes to hold and snuggle it while she's falling asleep.

  • LO's had a blanket since she broke out of her swaddle at a week old
  • my LO also has had a blanket since he was 4-5 months old... it was fall/winter time and freezing in his room. he is not much a mover (hardly at all when he was a real little guy) so i felt comfortable covering him with a blanket at night.

  • Yes, we have a blanket in there with our DD. She has had it since she rolled over..so about 5 months old. I will tell you she very rarely stays covered, so we still dress her in warm pjs during cold weather.

  • DD has had her favorite blanket in there since 5-6 months old.  She goes crazy for it as soon as she sees it and associates it with sleeping. It doesn't really do much to keep her warm though because she rolls around so much. When I check on her, she's usually laying on top of it.

  • It's really your comfort level but for us she was a year and a half maybe a little older before we put a small blanket on her. We never put anything in her bed though and you have so your LO may be use to it and i am paranoid lol.
She will be 2 next month and we just gave her a pillow, sheet and comforter type blanket but we just transitioned to her toddler bed which is why we did that too.

  • My LO has slept with an A&A blanket since day one not that it really covers him most of the night.  If you feel like he's ready for a blanket, then go for it, but I'd also try to keep the room warmer.
