MOTN Feedings

Curious how long yours typically take?

No matter what happens ours are an hour from when DD wakes up till I get back in bed. She can eat for 10 minutes or 30 but it seems the faster (I assume less) she eats the longer it takes me to get her back down.

  • It takes me 2 hours from awake to asleep again. She's a slow eater and doesn't like going back to sleep.

  • At least an hour and no matter how tired I am when I start the process I feel like I'm always wide awake by the end so it takes me a while to get back to sleep.

  • Usually an hour, hour and a half. I'm experimenting with my soda intake because I've been curious to see whether having one with dinner causes her to stay awake longer. I didn't have one last night and she STTN! We'll see what happens tonight!

Ours takes about an hour with diaper change, feeding, and rocking her back to sleep.  I made DH help by changing her diaper each time last night before feeding her which was a huge help.

  • I bottle feed and it still take me over an hour from wake to calmed. She normally eats about half, then has to stop and poop, then finish eating. It feels like it takes forever. Once she is fed and changed and finally satisfied I usually just end up laying her in the cradle and letting her go to sleep on her own. Some nights it doesn't work and I have to put her in the swing with a paci.

About an hour, but more if I have to pump.  I find it strangely amusing that I can inhale half a pizza in five minutes when DD needs attention, but it takes DD an hour to eat four ounces when all I want to do is go back to sleep.
  • No more than 30 minutes.  B is a power eater in the middle of the night and almost always fall s asleep on my boob.  I have always been a good sleeper myself, so I am usually back in bed and asleep about 35 minutes after we got up.

  • Not really sure :\">

The first time he wakes up between 12-2 (depending on when he went to sleep), probably about 15 min. I don't know because I usually fall asleep pretty quickly. (Side lying nursing and co-sleeping here).

When he wakes up around 4-5 it usually takes 45 min for diaper change, burp and eating.

Eating only takes 10 minutes. Burping and keeping her upright so she doesn't spit it all up is about thirty, and then diaper change. She usually goes right back to sleep.

We bottle feed and it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours. It just depends. He seems to go back to sleep much faster during his first two feedings, usually around 10 and then 1 am. He then wakes up again around 3 am. That one is horrible. He always poops, gulps his bottle and has gas, and then he fights going back to sleep. It was over two hours before he went back to sleep this morning.
  • I'd say we're in the 30 minutes to 1 hour camp.

  • When O gets up, I change his diaper first. Then I nurse him. He only eats for about 10-15 min I'd say and he is back to sleep. I then burp him for about 5-10 min and lay him back down. Sometimes we both just fall asleep in bed while I am nursing. Depends on the night. Typically it's 30-45 min start to finish.

This.  I typically fall asleep while breastfeeding and then wake a little while later when LO is asleep.  I then pick him up and put him in the bassinet next to my bed.
  • 15 maybe 20 minutes. I reach over and get her out of the RnP, do a quick sneaky diaper change in bed, side lay nurse her for about 5-10 min then right back in her RnP and we are both fast asleep.

I have tried burping her overnight but she doesn't really wake all the way up to eat so I can never get her to burp. I tried for several nights for a long time with no success so I decided she is fine. Am I crazy for not making her burp?

  • I too, have given up on side-lying burping! If I happen to nurse him on the rocking chair at night I will try, but my LO is 9.5 weeks now, and often just burps on his own now.

She eats and then falls back asleep while burping, so I don't have to worry about getting her back to sleep. It all depends on how fast she sucks down the bottle. :)
