Anyone done this? I read the ebook and we started this morning. He's had about a dozen accidents already. I almost feel like he was doing better before we started? But maybe I just need to see it out.
Any tips?
First two days are horrible, but it gets better, day 3 and 4 we noticed a huge change and by day 5 she was running to the potty. We make a big deal when we go to the bathroom, like last night in the middle of dinner I said "oh, I have to go potty, I will be right back" this helps her realize that it is ok to stop anything she is doing to use the bathroom. I do this often when we are playing and 90% of the time she goes potty too, she is getting better at recognizing she needs to go while she is playing.
I did it with DD1 and will do it in a few months with DD2. The first day was really rough for us. She seriously had at least a dozen accidents by noon. By the end of day 2 she was starting to get it - she actually stopped what she was doing and ran to the bathroom twice! By day 4 she totally had it down. It is frustrating and you have to have a ton of patience.
We did 3DPT with DD shortly before she turned two and had a lot of luck with it. You have to follow the method to a T - watch LO constantly, don't go anywhere, etc. Things that helped us:
- Do it on a long weekend when both you and DH will be home for three days, not going any where. It is easier with two because you literally cannot take your eyes off of them. If LO has an accident, one can clean up while the other one watches LO.
- Make sure you start your day with all your cleaning supplies prepped and ready to go, along with plenty of clean towels and underwear.
- Keep the potty in the room that LO is in, don't expect them to make it to the bathroom until the end of day 3 or longer.
- Don't give up. Days 1 and 2 were rough, but it clicked by the end of day 3.
What age did you guys do the 3 day potty training? JenniCollins, it looks like your DD is only about 4 months older or so. I have introduced and tried a few times, not really pushing the issue, and she likes the potty but hasn't ever actually gone.
