Smiles

How many of you have little ones that are smiling already--truly smiling, not just smiling while passing gas or sleeping? If so, when did they start? If not, how old are they now, and were they premature?

To answer my own question, our eight week old is not really smiling socially yet. He was four weeks premature.

Re: Smiles

  • Started truly socially smiling at probably 7-8 weeks and was 5 weeks premature.

  • My LO was 2 days overdue, and started socially smiling at 5 1/2 weeks. My DD started at 4 weeks and was 3 weeks early... so really, I think it just all depends on the kid. But when it does happen, OH! It's marvelous. :)

Mine started to smile at six weeks. She has days where she smiles more and others where it seems she doesn't want to be social, just sleep lol. She's seven weeks now so hoping she will keep it up!
  • DD was born at 37 weeks and started smiling at 6 weeks on the dot.

We were getting true social smiles between 4 and 5 weeks. When she's fed and happy, I put her in the couch next to me and talk to her and she smiles up a storm. She was overdue by 2 days.

Oh I can't wait to see E start smiling at us!  Sometimes I think she is social smiling but then it's so brief that I'm not sure if it happened.  Just hit 4 weeks today so hoping we get smiles soon like the rest of your luck ladies!

Iris was born at 38 weeks and started smiling at 7 weeks.  She's 8 weeks now, and the smiles are still few and far between.  I can only assume that she spends the rest of her time thinking deep and serious baby thoughts.  My husband often asks her if she is concerned about Syria or global warming.

Ok scratch my earlier response...was just doing tummy and playmat time with Little Miss E and she let out several gummy smiles for me. Can't wait for more and more to come.  She was born 40W4D and is 4 weeks exactly today.

DD started to truly smile at 1 month, 1 week. If your LO is premature though, you may have to go by his adjusted age as to when he will start smiling. I wouldn't worry about it, it will happen!

DS will be 8 weeks this Thursday, and he started genuinely smiling almost two weeks ago. He now has started gurgling, cooing, and slightly laughing. I love getting him to smile! He wants to chat with me so badly!
  • And because I feel like AWing my son...

Riley is giving me half smiles for the past few days. He just turned one month on Saturday and was born at 40w 2d. He also started giving me little coos here and there. I can't wait until I get the full smiles though!

LO started smiling at 3 weeks and change. He was born at 41+1. Our pediatrician said it was too early when we mentioned it at the time, but he only did it if DH and I were smiling at him. Now (one week later), he grins when he sees my boob, which is hilarious.
  • First real smiles were around 6-7wks. He was born at 37w1d.

Baby girl started smiling at like 5 weeks and change but they were few n far between... and usually at her daddy! Yesterday she smiled at her playmates toys for the first time and this morning I got a huge good morning grin for the first time. I love it. :)
