Nervous about first IUI

Hello everyone!  My wife and I will hopefully be doing our first IUI next week some time.  I am beyond excited and nervous.  I don't really know what to expect or if i should be doing anything to prepare.  While trying not to get my hopes up too much, I know I will be crushed if it doesn't work and I don't want to let my wife down.  Does anyone have a little bit of advice or anything to help ease the minds of two first time mommies?

Re: Nervous about first IUI

  • I don't have a ton of advice to give but just wanted to say congrats on getting started! Hopefully it happens very fast for you two :)

     Good luck!

PS... my wife and I have the same names as you two Big Smile

My name is A, I am wife to J.  After 7 months of ttc and one MC, we are expecting two baby girls in 2014!

  • This is such an exciting time for you two.  I hope everything goes smoothly and you have immediate success!  If you don't, just remember that for most of us, it took a few tries before we had success.  Don't be hard on yourself - and I'm sure your wife won't feel let down if the first IUI doesn't work; I'm sure she will be your biggest support!

Just an FYI regarding my experience - the first week of my TWW always flew by.  The second week always seemed like the longest week ever.  That's the nature of the beast.  If you can, keep busy and stay positive!

If you don't already, check in on the TTC thread each week.  Such a great support system.  Hope to see you on the Pregnancy thread soon.  Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies! Amanda is my biggest fan so I know she will be supportive with whatever happens.

My doctor said my blood work and lady bits all look excellent so we shouldn't have any problem. I wish it cost so much in case we don't get pregnant with the first two tries. My insurance only covers straight married women so we have to pay for everything ourselves.

    Have a great day!
  • So my DW and I are in our 2ww of our 3rd IUI. I too had all of my lady parts working correctly. The IUI itself is good. It has never bothered me. I try to stay relaxed and hold DW's hand and look at her during the very short time that it takes to inseminate. It also helped that the first woman that did the insemination made me feel so comfortable.

I agree with ATXmommas the first week of the TWW is quick, but for me right now the last three days of waiting are long.
Good luck this week and keep is updated on the TTC update.

  • You will feel like this the whole time you are trying... Before IUI, afterwards, after you have done a test!! Lol the whole time wondering if there is anything more you can do, the reality is there usually isn't. Try to be as healthy as you can and spend time with your partner during the waiting periods and discuss how excited you both are, I found that made the waiting process a little better :)

Good luck!!! I hope it all goes very well x
  • Welcome and good luck! And that is outrageous about your insurance! Is it through work? If so, do you have a union that could put forward a human rights claim on your behalf?

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

  • My company is very conservative. A few of us have asked them to change the rules for the insurance but they want to stay with the conservative values. In January I will be able to get on my wife's insurance and be covered for next year. Indiana is very conservative but we are finding ways around it to work for our family. On September 9th I will finally have my wife's name but only because I legally changing it with the courts
