Crib to big boy bed transition?

I've been reading a lot of the posts on here about not transitioning him to a big bed until he is either climbing out of his crib or he is around 2 years of age. I am just wondering if anyone has done it earlier and what the outcome turned out to be. He is 16 months old, and not tall for his age or anything, and sleeps fine in his crib. I'm just curious. I know that when we transition it will be to a twin bed and not a toddler bed, and his room will have a gate on the door that he will not be able to remove. In the mornings we bring him into our bed and he sometimes falls back to sleep. he can easily get down, just can't get back up as our bed is a little higher. Thanks in advance:)

Re: Crib to big boy bed transition?

  • My DS is 15 months and loves the bed, currently takes naps there and the past two weeks has been sleeping in it with me because he is getting all 4 molars and doesn't sleep well while teething.  But now he won't go in the crib, not sure if it is bc of the teeth still (only 2 have broke skin) or just would rather be in the bed.  So I am debating putting him in the bed although last night he still woke up 4 times crying, he did go back down but I am not sure if that was because of the teeth!  Oh I think about this all day, he was a good sleeper and I just want that back.  I am just afraid he will get off the bed in the middle of the night.  I guess we just have to put him back.  I was in a bed at 15 months because my brother was born but my mom said I was always a great sleeper.  I wish I had more help rather than rabbling!

  • We turned our sons crib to a toddler bed around 15 months. I know it's not the same as a big bed but we wondered if giving him a "freeing" feeling of not being cooped up might help him sleep better as he sleeps best when in bed with us. We use one of those guards so he can't roll out of bed. It seems to help..we do still bring him in with us sometimes but it felt good t
