Are convertible cribs worth it? Should I just buy new bed?

I am thinking of transitioning my soon to be 20 month old into a big boy bed. I don't want to do a toddler bed, because I see it as pointless. They are basically the same size as a crib mattress, and that is the main reason I am transitioning him....because he is getting to big for the crib. His crib is a convertible one. Converts into a full bed.....we just have to purchase a standard metal frame, and the full sized mattress obviously. I am wondering if its worth it to even convert, or am I better off just buying him a bed? What have your experiences been with convertible cribs? Successful? Too much work to set up? Let me know....thanks!!

  • It kind of depends on if you're planning on having another LO. I  never converted the crib because I always seemed to need it again lol. Most people I know were the same way. They needed the crib for another LO so they never messed with it.

  • I do plan on having another one, but if it's a girl, I don't want the cherry wood one I have now, I'd like to do a white crib for a girl.

With that info I would convert. Many of my friends did not because their dc wrecked their crib by chewing on it.

You can always rearrange if you get pregnant with a boy.

  • I love our convertible crib. I think the toddler bed is a great transition because you switch out only one side and its the same wood. I am just very happy with our convertible crib.

If you plan on putting your son in a full-size bed anyway, then I would just go ahead and convert your crib. No need in purchasing another headboard.

I didn't get a convertible crib because we plan on moving DS to a twin bed once he's done with the crib. A full-size bed is just too big for his bedroom.

Thanks so much for your input!
