Re: Yay, we scheduled our HS interviews!

  • I used to do homestudies for foster care:

    1)  Be yourself

    2) It's fine to offer food and drink but don't be surprised if the worker declines it

    3) Turn the TV off (that used to drive me nuts when people would keep the jumbo flat screen blasting away).

    4) Don't try to set the worker up with someone......I had a woman who decided I was going to marry her son the first time I came to her house.

    5) Ask questions.  Nothing is too stupid to ask.  The parents who didn't have any questions worried me.

    6) Do not have random people hanging out at your house.  It's not the time for company and it seems really shady if you don't introduce them.

    7) Have all your paperwork together and have everything that needs done to your home done.  It will make the process much faster and easier for everyone.

    8) Clean and straighten the home but make sure it still looks like people live there.  There was one home that I described as "sterile" (though not in the official report) and I kinda felt bad for any kid living there.  It was the kind of house were it looked like nothing could be even a millimeter out of place.
