March 2014 Moms

Subchorionic hemorrhage and u/s update.

Just had my second u/s today. One week ago they only saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac and told me I was only 5w1d when by LMP I was 5w6d. They were concerned my pregnancy may have stopped developing. Well today my u/s showed a little embryo and a hb! And it put my dates back to where they were originally lol. The tech said they can't date very well with just a yolk sac (thought that might help since I've seen a few ppl ask about dates vs hb etc)

However the notes from my us stated I had a subchorionic hemorrhage. I've heard of it but was wondering if anyone has had experience with it and what the outcomes were?

Re: Subchorionic hemorrhage and u/s update.

  • I have not personally, but I do know of many who have had them and gone on to have totally normal pregnancies. Sometimes they bleed out, which can be really scary, but sometimes they reabsorb into the body and go away on their own. What did your doctor say?

  • The doctor hasn't said anything yet. I read it on the report the tech left on the screen when she left the room. I don't see the doc til aug 8th. I suppose I'll have to wait.

  • I had one with DD. we found it at 14 weeks because I had been spotting. Mine was pretty bad, I was on bed & pelvic rest from 14-32 weeks. but then it was gone. I had DD at 37 weeks and she was a healthy, beautiful baby girl, no complications! But most don't get that bad, they usually just tell you to take it easy and they go away on there own, usually before 18 weeks.
  • Thanks. I'm hopeful that it heals on its own. The doctor hasn't mentioned it to me so I was sure if I should worry or follow up or take it easy. I suppose I'll take it easy and follow up in a week.

  • I had a subchorionic hemmorage as well. It has already reabsorbed into my body and the doctor says everything is fine. There was never any risk to my baby and its really common.
  • Thanks. I feel better. I've had no spotting but the whole issue has yet to come up with my doc. I guess we'll see... Thx!

If your doc didn't mention anything, I would worry. My current Ob said that they are really quite common, Nd we we are only aware of them bc of the increase in early u/s.

    So keep your chin up.

I'm assuming you meant 'wouldn't worry'. I'm starting to relax. I almost wish I never saw the report lol!

Sorry for what you've been through. Sounds traumatic. Thank you for your advice it helps greatly.

  • Did anyone have moderate-hard pelvic cramping with the SCH?  I started bleeding and cramping yesterday at 8w2d.  Doc saw a very small SCH on my 7w1d US along with a very strong heartbeat and told me not to be concerned.  I am on bed rest and wait&see this weekend, and I'm freaking out.  I also have noticed that my breast tenderness is gone.  Has anyone else noticed that their other pregnancy symptoms decrease during one of these episodes?

  • Thanks for the reply TallAsh.  When I called the doctor yesterday, I was told that if I bleed through a pad/hr to go to the ER (I am nowhere near this) and to come in on Monday if I am still bleeding at all.

I have been passing small clots since last night.  The bleeding is getting lighter & browner this morning and only very mild cramps/discomfort (last night the cramps were pretty bad).  While I am concerned about the bleeding, I am very concerned about the cramping - I've read that the combo is not good.  But if this is common with a SCH, then I will feel more reassured.

  • I had one with DS. It bleed its way out so you may experience some spotting. My OB said it could go two way it would bleed itself out ot is a threaten miscarriage. I will keep you in my T&P. It was a stressful time for us, but DS is here. :)

  • Thank you Nickiechan.  I still feel very hopeful that everything will be okay, but also am trying to be realistic about the possibilities.  Your success is very encouraging.

  • I have a small SCH as well too..found a small one on my 6week6day ultrasound and they did another ultrasound at 9 weeks and it was a lot smaller. Dr told me not to worry and everything looked good besides that. I haven't had any bleeding yet (knock on wood) and Im 9weeks 5days. Hopefully it just reabsorbs into our bodies and goes all the way away! I also have been having cramping almost everyday but no spotting/bleeding

  • My sister had one early in her pregnancy, she's now 30 weeks along. It healed on its own
  • I really appreciate everyone's feedback.  Knowing others have been or are going through this is comforting.  I see my doctor on Monday and will post about the results. T&P to everyone!
