Not wanting to start a riot..

But does anyone lay their baby down to sleep on their belly? I don't but have been thinking about it. She hasn't quite figured out how to roll yet but it's just a matter of where to put her arm. Head control is there, not to mention the mattress is hard as a rock, I don't this she could possibly bury her face in it if she wanted to... I just think she would she so much better and not to mention help with her gas... I've got a handful of friends that have dne it since birth, I don't agree so much with that but thinking its probably not such a big deal now... Anyone doing this?

Re: Not wanting to start a riot..

  • I haven't yet but I am thinking about it... I'm right where u r. My LO is not a good sleeper and I am wondering if it would help. Lol I also need to learn a smooth way to lay her down like that. I attempted for a nap the other day and she woke up as soon as I flipped her.

Ps u can't create a title like that and not expect backlash! Lol u should've just posted normally :)

  • I only lay him to sleep on his stomach when he is taking a nap. Otherwise, I am waiting until he is able to roll over a few times before I feel safe overnight.

  • I know most people don't but my DD sleeps on her belly and has since about 6 weeks...she just sleeps SO much better and she is also super gassy so that helps with it.
The first few weeks I was up often to check on her because everything makes you so scared but honestly I'm so happy I did it and I think she is too! :)
  • Mine sleeps on his belly.
  • My LO sleeps on his belly during naps too. He just started to roll but I'm not comfortable yet letting him sleep on his belly while I'm sleep.

  • I think m would sleep better on his tummy too...but we always always put him on his back. Even though the mattresses are firm, babies have suffocated on those mesh bumpers, and they have holes. Just food for thought

We haven't hut have really wanted to try it. I also think LO might sleep better on tummy but am afraid to try.
  • Grace, you do have a good point about the definition of SIDS, I hadn't thought about it that way! I know we are just a matter of weeks before she will start to move to what she is most comfortable in but was just thinking it would make her much more comfortable... Thanks for yalls input.. I should probably just be patient.
  • Mine has slept on his belly since 7 weeks. From birth he never slept well on his back, and he had his first cold at 7 weeks. He could not breathe well on his back then, so we put him in the bed with us on his belly for a few nights and he was just in such a better mood during the day after a good nights sleep. We discussed it with his pedi at his 8 week check up. At that point he was already rolling over, and scooting around his crib thru the night. She was ok with it, so we were as well. He was also extremely colicky and tummy sleeping helped with that a lot!!

This.  Although he is starting to prefer naps on his back now.  But has been tummy sleeper since about 2 weeks for naps.

  • I let my DS sleep on his tummy on me for naps at times, but I always put him on his back for long naps and bedtime. A friend of mine lost her 3-month-old nephew to SIDS a few months ago. His mom put him on his belly during a nap. Heartbreaking. After that, I'm just not comfortable risking it.

  • I worry about SIDS too. At this point, DD hates being on her tummy at all, for which I am thankful. This might change once she starts to roll, but even then I would not deliberately put her on her tummy to sleep.
  • We've put our LO to sleep on her belly since about 6 1/2 weeks only because she had great head control. I wish that I had done it sooner because I feel things would have been much better around here! She sleeps well - all through the night, most of the time one feeding around 5 or 6 but sometimes twice. Her naps during the day have gotten to the point where they're about 30 minutes (UGH) but she's a happy camper and she sleeps while she eats no matter when so I count that towards her sleep total for the day. She's now 14 1/2 weeks.
  • SIDS is such a scary thing to worry about. I've been worried about it nonstop since day 1. I do everything, and I mean, everything I can to prevent it. Emma still sleeps in her RNP because of this. I am scared to put her in her crib out of my room for a full night. She doesn't sleep well flat on her back anyways, only small little naps she's able to do for any long period of time.

I am so scared of SIDS. I wake up 2-3 times a night just to see if I can hear her breath still, pull back her covers away from her face if they are even a little bit too close, and make sure that she's still safe in there. My goodness, petrified. I know this probably has a lot to do with my post partum hormones as well though. I delt with pretty bad pp anxiety that I'm still kind of dealing with.

Sorry, that does not at all answer your question, but to get back on topic, no I wouldn't lay her on her stomach. She hates that too and hasn't rolled over yet. Lol..

He's had great head control for the longest time.  I made the switch about 3 weeks ago when he started rolling from tummy to back.  I decided no more swaddling at that point, which made it impossible for him to NOT wake himself up -unless on his tummy.   I was terrified, but he sleeps SOOOO much better since switching it up.  We have the sensor on our monitor, so if he stops moving/breathing an alarm will go off.  No scares so far.

  • My LO has slept on her tummy since about 5 weeks. She sleeps thru the night and it works for us.
