I have had genial herpes for about four years now and I've done alot of reading about giving birth and the potential risks of the baby catching the virus during labor. I was just wondering if anyone out there has been through this already and managed to avoid a c section. I would really love to deliver vaginally but fear that an outbreak would mean c section. Im hoping to be able to manage an all natural birth in a hospital w a midwife. Im only 10 weeks in so hsvent figured out details yet but this is a reoccuring fear. Apparently 1 in 4 people have herpes II so.... Anyone out there want to share?
Re: Giving birth w/ herpes. Tmi
Anyone that has a hx of herpes should be put on Valtrex around 36wks just as a precaution. If you don't have a current outbreak, no contraindication for a vaginal birth.
Good luck!
