December 2010 Moms

holy crap, stupid week

Is this week over yet?

So I've been at the hospital every day since my grandma was admitted.  She seems to be doing ok but all shes getting is supportive care.  Its really hard seeing her like that.  And my mom was debating taking her home but decided on leaving her at the hospital cause she'd get better care there.  I'm just so worried she may die alone.  I really really don't want that for her.

And then today somehow Bishop got a deep cut on his toe.  I don't even know how but all I saw were puddles of blood everywhere and he wouldn't stay still to let me see the cut.  It wouldn't stop bleeding and it didn't look like the skin was together.  I wanted to take him to the ER but it was a huge shuffle cause DH took our only vehicle (with the carseats inside) to work.  So I had to call my dad from work to come over and watch Griff while my sister came over to pick me up and drive me to DHs work to get our vehicle.  At the ER they just glued and put a small bandage over Bishops toe.  Its the first real injury hes had and my heart is still beating so fast.

Anyway, its been a long week and I just want it to be over!  /vent

  • Ugh. That sounds so stressful. I'm sorry that your difficult situation was compounded by one just as difficult. Hope Bishop's toe heals soon.

  • Hugs! I'm so sorry it's been so stressful. I'm glad B only needed the glue instead of stitches.
Does Canada have anything like Hospice or palliative care that they do in the US? I have had several family members use hospice for end of life care and it was much better/personable than some of the clinical starkness that is the hospital setting. Just a thought, again I'm sorry things are so rough this week.

I asked my mom if Canada has hospice and she said that we do so I guess shes going to look into it.  My sisters friends grandma (she actually just passed away this morning :() was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May and they had her in a nursing home.

  • I'm so sorry about your grandma, babycakes! :(  I think that if she can get into hospice that would take a lot of worry away from you.

Also, poor Bishop and poor mama!  That sounds really stressful to have to shuffle the cars around like that all while worried about his toe. :(
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

I'm sorry it's been such a rough week babycakes.  It's good that Bishop just needed glue and not stitches.
My father-in-law was in hospice care for the last few weeks of his life.  It was much better for all in our family - he could be at home where he wanted to be, my MIL wasn't driving back and forth to the hospital, and we could bring B to visit him and say goodbye.  At the end there was a nurse's aid with him full time and she was able to wake my MIL and call my H and SIL with enough time for them to be with him when he passed.  I hope it's something that will work for your family.  Hugs to you!

  • Thanks guys.

The doctor scheduled a family meeting to discuss my grandmother for tomorrow morning.  I hope to get more answers but I'm also really scared.  :-S
