High-Risk Pregnancy

Any GD moms not testing for ketones?

I'm almost 19 weeks with diet-controlled GD.  My doctor has never brought up testing for ketones at home.  I never tested myself when I had GD with my first pregnancy either.  Should I be concerned?  I'll bring it up an my next appointment, but that's a few weeks away.

My OB does not require keytone tests either.

  • Nope. Haven't tested them.

Neither my OB or my GD counselor have even mentioned that.

I am mostly diet controlled (take 1.25 mg glyburide each night). I test my blood sugar at least 4 times a day. I have been well controlled since my diagnosis at about 24 weeks.

I do not test my keytones either. 4 BS checks a day, and Glyburide at night.

  • Are you losing weight during the pregnancy?  My dr has me check them, but is particularly concerned with them, since I've lost 11 pounds in one month.  The dr may be checking to see if you diet has enough carbs through the use of ketone testing.
