Nursing Mamas...

I was planning to order a new nursing cover today and then stopped because, well, will I ever be able to feed them out in public seperately? I want to try tandem feeding but do you tandem out in public? Or do you feed them seperately? I'd assume you can't use a nursing cover when tandem feeding.

Please enlighten me.

TIA!

I've never attempted to tandem in public. The few times I've NIP, I've done solo sessions and just draped a light blanket. We really only tandem though and I just plan my outings around nursing

Granted we're still new at all of this, but I tandem them almost always and was curious how to handle feeding them while out and about.

  • I only did tandem one time, and I was in a family restroom on the couch. I nursed one at a time every other time. It was faster than trying to situate without a boppy.

  • My mom just made me two covers from directions we found on Pinterest! Cost us less than $5 for 1 cover! I figured, why not have it in case I do nurse one in public or at a family members house. I do plan to try and tandem feed though the rest of the time.
  • I NIP all the time but never tandem. It was easier one at a time and I'd nurse before they were screaming hungry. I haven't let them slow me down much. I always nursed before leaving but if they got hungry while out I'd stop and nurse. I had several different covers but sometimes used an A&A swaddle blanket bc they are big and so light weight.
  • I did tandem feed once in public. It was very difficult to hold both babies up for the entire time, but they were also three weeks old at the time. I wonder if it might get easier if they are older. I always tandem feed at home and schedule outings around feedings. They usually eat around 9am and 12pm so we go out in the mornings between those. If I did have to NIP I would probably do one at a time unless they were both wailing. In that situation being covered would probably be the last thing on my mind. With DS I never covered when I NIP anyway unless I was in a restaurant.

  • I tandem with a nursing cover and my Brest friend at my mother and sisters when my male family members are around like my dad/ brothers. When out in public I did one at a time.

  • As others have said, one at a time in public is much easier.  Places like BRU that have a mother's room with a couch made it possible to tandem while out.  I would plan outings with a stop at a place with a mother's room.  Once they get to about 3 months or so the feedings are quick, 10 minutes or less for us. Once we made it to that point, feeding them in public became so much easier.

  • I NIP one at a time without a cover and at home around anyone tandem without a cover.
I have a handful of times nip without a cover in public if needed when they were bigger and didn't need the pillow. I just sat off to the side and figured people could look away if they didn't want to see (nothingich was showing anyway)
