Wedding weekend re-cap

This weekend, we traveled to a wedding in Kentucky, about seven hours away.  We left Charlotte here with my parents!

On her weekend: she had a blast.  According to them, she mostly ate and slept normally, with the exception of taking one long mid-day nap on Sunday because they took her to church.  They took her to the park, the indoor play place, and the play area at the mall.  She has also started taking steps on her own last week, so to commemorate that, my mom took her to the nice shoe store downtown.  She had Charlotte properly fitted for shoes and bought her a really nice pair of StrideRite walking shoes to wear this summer and fall, as well as a package of nice toddler socks.  (She thought I would be upset about her buying Charlotte her first "real" shoes!  I would never complain about this.)  Anyway, my kid is a champ.

On our weekend: it was awesome.  Got to see all of DH's college friends and their wives.  We stayed in the same hotel, where DH and I had a big suite for everyone to hang out together.  (This was a great idea but made for some very late nights.)  The wedding was beautiful!  It was on a farm and the events took place in a barn, which was beautifully decorated.  It was very casual and also classy.  The only downside to the weekend was after the wedding when one of DH's rather drunk buddies accidentally tackled me off a picnic table and injured my shoulder.  Another friend who is a chiropractor examined it the next morning and said it's a sprain and that I should keep it in a sling.  Well, that's not going to happen with a child to care for, but I'm trying to keep up with ibuprofen and ice.

Overall, I was VERY glad we didn't bring Charlotte.  Another couple brought their kids, ages 4 years and 10 months.  Because they do not have a regular daily schedule, usually to to bed very late and not at the same time every day, and co-sleep with their parents, they did okay with being hauled around town and staying up until the end of the rehearsal dinner and reception.  Charlotte would not have fared so well and I would have spent lots of time stuck in the hotel for her to nap.  (The other baby there cat-naps for 20 minutes in mama's arms after nursing every hour, so it seemed like that worked out with a crazy weekend schedule.)

If you read this, congratulations.  :o)  I hope everyone else had a fun weekend!

  • We have a wedding this weekend where all of my husband's high school friends will be in attendance and if one of them drunkenly tackles me I will kill them.

Yeah, it wasn't the best.  I was sitting at a picnic table eating the pizza that we ordered after the wedding.  I'm pretty sure he was running because of the pizza and then decided that hugging me would be a good idea... and the rest is history.
  • Sounds like everyone had a great time! I need good happy thoughts like this to prepare me for going away for 5 days next month.

  • Sounds like a fun time, minus being tackled!  I hope your shoulder heals quickly!

Ooh, where are you going?  I went to New Orleans for five days for work at it was fine - DD was home with DH and had a couple different sitters.  We have also left her with both sets of grandparents for 3 days at a time.  It only gets better each time we do it!  It's hard at first, but you will enjoy your time away.
