Help a FTM out -- LO is rolling over now and is OBSESSED w sleeping on his tummy. Can I let him do this? He can turn himself back over so I guess I could, I just don't know if I will sleep soundly from worrying!
I keep a small flashlight by our bed so I can check on our LO. Our son is 3 months old and still sleeps in our room in his bassinet. It was a fight from day one to get him to sleep on his back, I toughed it out for 2 months then one day I put him on his tummy for a nap and he slept great. So for a month he has been sleeping on his tummy for naps and at night. He isn't rolling over yet but he does have great head and neck control and has no problems turning his head at night.
The flashlight has been a great tool for my peace of mind.
He seems content and I know he can roll himself back over, I just can't wrap my mind around letting him do this. Part of it is also related to him throwing up during tummy time -- he will occasionally spit up and face plant in it, which in addition to being gross also makes me worry about suffocating or choking.
We've had quite a night, he's already spit up AND peed all over his sheets, and got frustrated after scooting around his crib for a while and then just started screaming/crying which lead to the barf situation....all this to say, I really just wan tot go back to the good old days of falling asleep on his back and calling it a night!
DS has been sleeping on his tummy for naps since 2 months and at night for about a month now. He is a huge spitter too but he doesn't do it at night. Right now I still rock him to sleep (that didn't even start until 3 months, he decided he would no longer put himself to sleep) then put him in the crib on his tummy and he doesn't spit up at night, never has actually. I'm hoping when we sleep train in a month or so, he can fall asleep on his tummy without spitting up but we'll see.
As long as he can roll both ways and move his head how he wants, he should be fine to sleep that way.

We are going through the same thing here. At first, I would go in an flip him to his back whenever I saw him on his stomach but he would just roll back over within a minute. I still put him to sleep on his back but he rolls right to his stomach. I honestly dont know what to do to stop him from doing this.
Thank goodness we have an Angelcare monitor with video. It has given me so much piece of mind knowing that if he were to stop breathing, an alarm would go off.
our pedi said once they roll to their tummy for sleeping, to just leave them like that and not worry. but maybe check with your doctor to see what they recommend?
My pedi always said as long as I put them to sleep on their back it is ok if they roll over to their tummy. As soon as I put my LO down now on her back she rolls to her tummy.
My son does the same but won't flip himself back. I spent a week not sleeping because I was so nervous and would spend the night flipping him over and trying to keep him on his back. But it obviously wasn't working out well so we got a Snuza for peace of mind. I'm still nervous but feel better and am sleeping better because of it.
