Feeding on demand

My LO is 5 weeks. Lately she's been sleeping an average of 5-7 hours in a row at night and then during day eats every 2-3 hours. So at night do I need to pump or just stay with her schedule ? I just ont want to lose my supply or get too engorged ect...

Re: Feeding on demand

  • I always stayed with LO's schedule and my body regulated over time. I did need to pump for a few minutes for comfort though for a couple of nights because I was pretty engorged by the morning.

I would just go with her schedule and your supply will regulate to what she sleeps. Even if she does different things each night it should be fine.

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • You won't lose your supply.  Your body will regulate to match her demand.  If you need to build up a stash for any reason, then you may want to have a session in there, but if it means not getting enough sleep yourself (don't know when LO goes down for you), then I'd pass on that.
  • I thought about this when my LO started sleeping 7-8 hours.  Sleep ALWAYS won!
