Kid lunch

DS used a Thermos Funtainer straw cup last year and wants a new cup, he better never be too old for Mickey Mouse! So, I need recommendations. He tried an Old Navy sports bottle last year and never seemed to close it right but he will be almost 7...how is that possible that he 6.5! So it does not have to be a sports bottle but if it is I need to know it is not hard to close. Any recommendations for a non-leaking cup that will fit in his lunch box and be easy to clean?

We love these cups. I've had them since DS was 1 - so 3.5 years old, and they're still going strong. Ignore the negative reviews, they rock. Of course, almost 5 and almost 7 is a difference, so your DS might think they look babyish?

  • Unfortunately we are past the Munchkin stage but DD holds onto her last one for milk. I might do a Klean Kanteen with a sports bottle spout but I hate buying something like that online.

  • I would look sports bottles with the pull up/push down spout vs straws.

I have found that even camelbacks (which if you really want to stay with the straw type one is the way to go) can build up pressure and leak out of the sipping part, especially if you have anything with bubbles.

And we do bubbles in our house. DD and I  LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE fizzy water (German influences) and we bought a soda stream to keep us in our bubbles.

The only problem is that it ends up bubbling up and leaking.

  • Target have a good selection of plain/not child focused bottles in the camping section.  None of those have leaked for us, but are about double the price of the Thermos containers (Camelbak is one brand).  We have also used the $4 metal bottles from WalMart, and they get beaten up (dinged) but will last forever (OK, not forever, but we have had some of them for 5 years).

  • We do a rotation of Thermos drinks, Fruitables, and Capri Sun for school lunches.

  • Ilumine, so funny, I saw when you got the soda stream. Nathaniel loved bubbly water in England. I only send water to school though and if he wants milk he can buy it.

  • To send sparkling water I buy canned sparkling water.  It's what DD takes.
