Cleaning baby vomit out of car seat...

Not the most pleasant of topics but I need help! On the way to a picnic at the park this morning, DD, without warning, Vomited everywhere. When we got home I took everything apart that I could and washed everything. However, there are so many little cracks I apparently didn't get everything good enough cause it still smells and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Will the smell go away or should I keep trying to clean it?

Re: Cleaning baby vomit out of car seat...

  • This happened to us a few weeks back. I'm sorry to say that we pretty much had to take the sea apart, scrub off what we could, then my husband power washed all of the nooks and crannies, let it dry for a day (we have another carseat) while we washed all of the cloth stuff, then put the entire thing back together again. I wasn't exactly sold on the whole powerwashing thing (it was at a low setting), but the amount of vomit that was stuck in the crevices and inside the seat was pretty gross. The more thorough you can be, the less stinky the seat should become. Good luck!

  • I was going to say gentle power washing too but I would be worried to hurt the car seat. Maybe using a toothbrush to scrub the corners, wait for it to dry and vacuum well once anything left is dry and... Well crusty. Good luck.

  • You can wash the cover. Your manual should give you instructions. However, you CANNOT submerge or soak the harness. If you have, you cannot use it again. The water can break down the harness and it may not save your LO in an accident.

  • I think I have had to do this about 10 times...... The exact reason why I have a back up seat. As the other poster stated, you CANNOT completely get any part of the 5pt harness wet. If you already did so call the manufacture and get a new one!. All the manuals will tell you how to wash 'n care for the cover. As far as the seat goes I always wipe it down with clorox wipes. Best advice it to take it all apart, clean it respectively and then put it back together after it dries at least 24hrs.
  • Pull off the pads and hose it down

  • There are companies that professionally clean car seats.  It isn't that expensive.  Look for one in your area.
