13 month old suddenly resisting sleep

I don't know what happened.  For the past month or so my daughter has been doing pretty well going to sleep on her own.  We were initially putting her down drowsy-but-awake, but the last two weeks she has been going to sleep wide awake and falling asleep on her own with minimal to no crying, with the exception of last Sunday when she caught a cold.  Yesterday and today she fought me going to sleep for her naps, but she did eventually go down for her normal 2 hours.  Last night I had no problem putting her to sleep at night, but tonight for no apparent reason she was screaming bloody murder for about 15 minutes to the point she threw up.  We went in the room, cleaned her up and the sheets and I put her back in the crib.  She continued to scream for another 15 minutes and threw up again.  Now we were worried that she was possibly sick or teething, so we cleaned her up, gave her Advil and took her out of her room to calm her down since I couldn't calm her down in her room.  Within a few minutes, the little stinker was happy as a clam, babbling and giggling away like she normally does.  After that whole ordeal she seemed to catch a second wind, so we let her stay up hoping she would get tired again...she didn't, but I put her down again after an hour.  Again she cried for about 10 minutes, luckily didn't throw up and eventually went to sleep at 9pm (she normally goes to sleep between 7-7:30).  My husband and I can't figure out what happened.  She took her first real steps today, so I don't know if that contributed to it as I've heard motor development can sometimes affect sleep.  Did this happen to anyone else?  Suggestions?  Specifically any suggestions for when she throws up?

  • The only thing you can really do when she throws up is clean her off, clean her bedding and try to calm her down. I think the puking is really just her being upset so maybe try to feed her a half hour before you lay her down so it's not settling in her stomach.

  • Thanks!  Now she's resisting her before-bed bottle as I think she's associating it with going to bed.  She's been crying, but hasn't thrown-up the last two nights, so maybe in a weird way, it's helping with that.  I guess we just have to keep being consistent, but it's so tough.
