Interesting night

Started having painful contractions at 12am. Went to hospital at 4am at 5min apart and 1cm dilated. Walked around an waited w horrible back pain for 4 more hrs. They checked me and I was still 1cm. I just about cried. Got sent home to wait it out. Please pray for my cervix to dilate! Can't stand the pain anymore. Any idea I entertained of natural birth is out the window. This kills!

Re: Interesting night

  • Try and keep relaxed. Sleep, take a bath, walk, etc. You can do this! Someone on the boards wrote once this is the few times in life that it is "pain with a purpose"...every thing you feel IS accomplishing something.

  • Yes. Just try to relax (take some deep breaths) and tell yourself- you can do it! Just think- hopefully your LO will be coming soon!
  • Do you have someone to apply counter pressure? Do you have a yoga ball for different laboring positions? Have you tried a bath or shower? Try to stay positive and tell yourself you can do this brcause your body was built to do this! Good luck!

  • Like the others suggested, take a warm shower. It should help relax you. If you have someone with you, get them to massage your back. Those two things really helped me with DS.

  • You can do it momma!!! Hang in there!!
  • Oh really? You know, some of us have been in latent labor for weeks. Between Friday and Saturday night I got a total of about 5 hours of sleep thanks to painful contractions. I have been to labor and delivery 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Please tell me how you "can't take it anymore."
Amarissa, I like you a lot, but this isn't the pain Olympics. I know you've been going through a lot, and I have a lot of sympathy for your, but I kind of think this is out of line. Everyone has their own individual struggles, and just because you have it worse doesn't mean she can't complain or ask for support.

Polinaant - you can do this! Hang in there! I think the other ladies gave you some great suggestions!

Latent labor sucks a$$, especially when lo seems to be posterior and every stupid contraction is in your back! Amarissa, hopefully lo decides to come much sooner than later!!!

Oh my. You're a champ! It seemed to get a little better or I'm coping a little better now. Bath helped. I can't imagine dealing with this for 2 weeks. Guess this is where we find out what we're made of. Good luck to everyone and thanks for the advice.

I'm mobile so I can't see post counts, but I don't recognize OP at all. Google would have told her the same thing we could. I'm on week 2 of latent labor. Obviously, I'm of no help because I can't get my own cervix to dilate.
My snark more or less came from the fact that I don't recognize OP at all. I don't really have a problem with the content of the post.

  • I read something that I hope helps me when the time comes.  This is paraphrased since I can't remember the exact quote:  Because it is YOUR unmedicated muscles doing the work, natural contractions ALWAYS stop within your ability to cope.

I guess, in short, your body can't self-destruct, even if it feels like it might!  Hang in there!

I recognize her screen name, so I know she's posted before, and her post count is over 100 and she has posted numerous times on this board.

Like I said above, I recognize her screen name. She doesn't have a siggy, which might be why you don't recognize her, but she has posted on August '13 for months.

Meh, I don't recognize her either. But anyway, hope you feel better OP. A lot of us are going through exactly what you are.

  • @corraggiosa You may be right. The new bump changes does not show post counts and she has no avatar or siggy pic so it is something I may have over looked.

Polinaant- Sorry for the snark, I did not recognize your name and therefore found this to be a drive by. There really isn't anything you can do about the latent labor except wait it out. FWIW they say that those with latent labor tend to have a much faster delivery so hopefully that will hold true for those of us that have it.

  • OP, I am sorry you are having a rough morning. Hopefully, you start making progress soon!

Yeah, I know you can't see post counts from actual threads anymore, which is a total pain. It makes it so much harder to figure out who is a drive-by or AE. I imagine this will happen on occasion with people who post but aren't super frequent posters. I totally get calling out actual drive-bys, but this just didn't seem like one since I recognized her name (I always wondered how it was supposed to be pronounced, to be honest). Regardless, it was obviously a misunderstanding, so it's no big deal.

  • Besides showers, baths, massage, and positioning...distraction, distraction, distraction. I had latent labor with my previous LO, and it was horrible. I watched a lot of Netflix and read easy escapist fiction (think Nora Roberts, crime thrillers, etc.)

    Sorry you're going through this!
