NBR: Teachers or Moms of older kids (like 2-4th grade or close)

I'm heading up a backpack drive for my church for a local low income school.   We need to get backpacks for kids grades 2 to 4.   Stupid question but are that age group into things like Barbie, Disney stuff, etc?  Is it sad I don't even know the ages of kids in those grades.  We would love to get them nicer backpacks and not just plain colors, but don't want to buy things they would hate to carry :)

  • I teach kindergarten so take this how you will-- I'd stick with the plain colors. Even most of my students carry plain colors and not character themes. Plain colors may be boring, but then you don't run the risk of a kid being embarrassed by a backpack older kids might make fun of. (Bullying is unfortunately full force even in elementary and even if they like Barbie or something else, they may lie to fit in.)

  • I agree with sed8611 . Stick with solid colors. As a teacher of 4 th graders I do not see any of them with characters on their backpack, mostly solid colors. The occasional camo for boys.

  • I agree with sed8611 also. I teach 2nd grade and they usually have fun colors and patterns. Really no characters.

  • Thanks ladies. We asked the school about requirements and they said none - a lot of schools here are starting to require see the bags because of crime increase which is why we thought to ask in the first place.

  • I'd stick to solid colors also. Our school requires no wheels on backpacks.
