April 2013 Moms

7hrs

For the first time little one slept seven hours straight last night. The bad news is it was in the swing. I put her in there out of desperation after feeling completely exhausted already and waking up every single hour between 10 and 2.

How am I ever going to get her to sleep in her crib or even her pack and play, anything other than her swing or my chest?

Re: 7hrs

  • It'll happen. I'm still in the "do what works" phase. Mila still sleeps in her swing and Ava slept in it until 4 months. You'll get there!

  • The only other times I tried to swing at night was once we hit three or four in the morning so she only slept in there for a couple hours this is the first time I did it for an extended period of time.

Now I'm seriously tempted to do it every night so that I can sleep. I am so over the exhaustion.

  • Mila will give us one four hour and one three hour stretch in the swing. I'll transition her to the crib when we are ready to sleep train around 4-5 months.

  • I'm a FTM but I agree with the "do what works" motto when they're this young, going from what I've read and learned from others. I think it's perfectly OK to let her sleep in her swing, so both you and her get sleep and will both be happier for it! You can try to put her to sleep in her crib, and if it does't work, put her in the swing. When she gets closer to 6 months of age, you may need to do some sleep training. Start researching sleep training methods to find which method you think is best.

I was just telling DH maybe we try putting her down each night in the crib and after a couple wakes one of us move to the couch and her to the swing.   I can handle SO MUCH more when I'm not exhausted.   Thankfully DH takes over on Saturday nights so I can get a long stretch and sleep in to catch up but by Wed or Thurs I'm ready to kill everyone who crosses me because I'm so tired again.

  • If LO will only sleep long stretches in the swing, just embrace it. When we brought DS home from the hospital, we ended up dragging the swing upstairs at like 3 am and we just kept it n our room and let DS sleep in there for several nights. Then when I went back to work, I would get DS up and feed him at. 5:30 am and then he wouldn't go back down... So we moved the swing back into our room and after his morning feeding I would put him back in his swing and leave for work. DS would sleep there for a few hours so that DH could get a little more slee and get ready for work. Like @chicagobroad26 said, you can always sleep train down the road. Right now you kind of have to go with whatever works!
