Baby Registry and Baby Shower?!

edited July 2013 in November 2013 Moms
When did you guys, if you made one, start a baby registry? And what did you put on it?
Also:
My doctor told me the other day that I shouldn't have a baby shower too late, preferably not past 35 weeks, because of stress, straining, going into preterm labor and what not.
When are you guys having your baby showers or have you had it already?

My sister in law offered to host when I was 7 weeks along.. We started actually planning once I hit like 18-20 weeks and it will be when I am 33 weeks.

    I'm 25 weeks now.

  • I'm almost 23 weeks, but since my family lives about 400 miles away, we are having my 1st shower next weekend! Ill have another one in September with my husbands family, and my work will throw one in September too. Mine is a little earlier than normal, but I definitely don't want to do road trips the farther along I get. Good luck!
  • My best friend has said she is hosting with another couple a couple's shower, so we are going to do a cookout late August September time frame with friends. My family lives too far and haven't really thought about DH family, his sister and dad are here but, not a good mix with our friends. So if they want to do something, it's their call, they can't really afford to do anything so I am not worrying about it and since we aren't having a boy, I don't expect much from my FiL. If baby were a boy, he would give the baby the shirt off his back because he would carry on the family name... But she will just have to be happy with her daddy and I doting on her!
  • Mine is set for 31 weeks. My mom preserved invitations this week:) I started my registry online as soon as BFP, but I'm a little anal. It's sort of been a work in progress for me to manage what I want/need/and am buying on Craigslist and such.
I'll make sure it is coherent and set before invitations go out.

  • I'm having one shower with DHs family (out of town) at 27 weeks, and one in town with my friends and family at 32 weeks.

We did the bulk of our registries a few weeks ago. I've done a little adding/editing since then.

  • I will be 35 weeks at mine. Hopefully it won't be too stressful and the little one doesn't decide to attend!

  • I had my shower with our 1st LO at 28 weeks. That way you have time to put the nursury together, return unnecessary items, complete your registry with items you didn't get and look amazing in the pics and not too puffy.

  • With the way people's schedules worked my mom told me it was either 27 weeks or 35. I asked for 27 because I have high blood pressure, and didn't want the baby to be at the shower. Also I feel like I need to know all the things I need to get. For example: SIL had insisted she wanted to get us LOs carseat/stroller.. despite me saying its too much. But now they found out they are expecting baby #4 themselves and I haven't heard anything since. It's more than understandable if they've changed their mind on it, but I don't really feel I can ask them. So we will see at the shower and then go shopping!
  • I think I'll be around 33 weeks for my shower. I started my registries a few weeks back so I had plenty of time to research products before invitations went out.

  • I'm not having a shower with this one but with DD I had a shower 36 weeks in town and we had a sip and see with IL a couple weeks after DD was born. I registered at 24 weeks and it was not a good idea. I found out a month or 2 later half of my registry would not be available because they changed seasons and lines and most of would not be available and I basically had to reregister. So my advice for your registry is to wait till closer to time of your shower.

I'm having one at 27 weeks, and the other two around 31 or 32. (Work, friends, family)

I started my registries a couple weeks ago so I could have some of my mom friends look them over for suggestions. We are getting lots of hand me downs, but will still need some basics, and then added some fun items too...

There are a billion sites on the Internet, or Pinterest for help with registry must haves. Babylist and Lucies list both had good starting point I think, but you have to personalize to your own tastes, needs, and consider the budget of your family and friends.

    Good luck!

  • I won't be having one, as we live in L.A. and family and close friends are all in the Midwest. With DH's international travel we just won't be able to fly home before the holidays. MIL is planning to throw a "meet the baby" sometime in the spring.

I will be 35 weeks at mine since that time was best for my host. My invitations are coming in next week but I won't mail them out till early September. Still gives me a month to get the last things and wash everything and so on so the timing is fine for me.
  • I'm having my shower in a couple weeks, third weekend in August.
Just to be prepared in case we don't get a lot of things we need
  • Not having a shower I guess. Being a military wife across the country from my family is depressing enough and I never had a shower for my other kids either:( I feel like having a pitty party these days. It's depressing when my cousin who just had a baby posted about her 4 baby showers all over Facebook and she and her husband are pretty much loaded already. Ugh so depressing.

  • I'll be about 30-31 weeks at mine, it's set for 10/05 and my EDD is 11/26.  The shower is about 3 hours away because that is a better central point for family so I didn't want it to be any later.  MIL is hosting and I think she's sending out invites soon.  We did our registry really early because we were excited, but I would say as long as you have it done before invites go out you're okay!
  • No showers this time, but my showers last time were around 30 weeks. At first I was thinking this was on the early side, but it was perfect. It gave me plenty of time to buy everything else I needed and prep all of the gifts I had received.

We started a registry last time around 20 weeks, but only because we were excited. No matter when you start, you need to make sure to go to the store(s) before the invites go out and make sure everything is still in stock and available.

  • 33 and 35 weeks for my two showers. I don't plan to be stressed out about them. I don't really get why your doctor said that. I'm just showing up and receiving gifts and taking photos and getting loved on.

There are guides out there fit what to put on the registry. Some are ridiculous, but you'll find what's right for you. I used the Target guide and registered at Amazon and Target.
