April 2011 Moms

Anyone's 1mos baby getting more wakeful/fussy in evening?

Gone are the days we could just put him down and he'd sleep with little or no help.

DS has been pretty much awake since 3:30pm (now almost 8:30pm).  He is fighting sleep in the afternoon/evening.  I do try to keep wakeful times to 1-2hrs at most, but even if I get him to sleep he wakes right up (crying) once I put him down.

I'm not alone, right??

  • Totally not alone. For some reason, between 6 and 10 pm, my LO is wide awake and not a happy camper. This is every night. I can't complain too much, because she's fine the rest of the time and sleeps well at night, but those 4 hours are a pain.

My son just started this and has become the demon baby. He was awake from 4-8pm grunting and wiggling.

Thanks ladies.  Glad I'm not alone.  I know this is normal, coming up to the 6-8wk mark.  It just makes me a little crazy cakes when I KNOW he's tired and fighting it.

Tomorrow I might just stick him in the Moby around 4pm and wear him till 8 or 9.  I'll report if it makes any difference.

Side note.  It is hard to eat dinner while wearing a baby!  :P

  • Totally not alone. We've been having this since day one. We eat dinner in shifts.

  • Usually she's her fussiest between 7 and 9 but it's been extended tonight because we tried to put ointment in her eye. Not a happy camper lol!

  • yep - LO is happy the rest of the day, but grumpy in the evening, and it is hard to get her to wind down... on Kellymom, it says this is completely normal!

(Hopefully it doesn't last too long!)

Yes.  Also, she has started this thing where she will sleep in the bassinet fine from 9/10pm-1am, and then refuse to go back to sleep in it.  She will fall asleep fine on me at that point though.

  • I'm so glad you posted this? lately ours has been taking very short catnaps and especially in the evening, gets fussy and won't let us put her down. Luckily it seems to help in her sleeping better over night but still, if one of us is gone we're really restricted. I thought about putting her in a carrier as well, let me know how that goes!

  • It's always such a relief to her others having this same roller coaster ride! :) Mine is 5 weeks and she is definitely more alert and this is making it harder to settle her, especially in the early evening and won't sleep again until about 9pm. She seems to be ok the rest of the day, but it makes it hard to have time with the hubby :)
