rash

My LO has been having bowel movements that are leaving her skin so red and raw. Yesterday everything was fine. Today all of a sudden she is having bowel movements and by the end of the day she was in tears while I was changing her diaper because it hurt so much! I feel so awful seeing her in pain.  I am praying that the rash will go away over night.  I am using butt paste and caldasene powder.  Any other tricks that work for your LO that I should try?  Thanks!

Re: rash

  • what stage is your LO at? My daughter had bowel movements when she started eating solid foods and having fruit juice. What I found was the trick is in both the treatment and what they're eating. If your LO is having solid foods then keep in mind that some will cause rougher bowel movements than others, while Apples will give your LO a harder poop, pears will soften them right up. The days I gave Addy applesauce I made sure to give her pear juice to keep some kind of balance. If it's not about the food, then what I do is I use a little bit of Desitin and I'd check and/or change her diaper every hour. Johnson and Johnson Baby Powder also worked wonders but be sure to get the kind with cornstarch if you'd like to give that a go.

  • I use Medicine Mama's Sweet Bee Magic.  It's olive oil and bee's wax based and works like a charm on that sort of thing.  It's both a barrier cream and it soothes.  I hope your LO is feeling better today!

  • I really like Desitin or Burt's Bees for cream.

Also, baking soda bath with vinegar makes all the diaper rashes better around here.

  • Back when I had my 1st ( 12 yrs ago) he would get bad rashes like what you're LO is getting. My mom, grandma, and friends sister all told me about this diaper cream called pinxav (pronounced pink salve). Its been around since 1920's and you don't need an rx but you do have to ask for it behind the pharmacy counter at like walmart. It works great. I have used it on all 5 of my kids. It may seem pricey but a little go a long way. The big tub was $20 but it lasted from when my 5 yo was a baby till just a little while ago I ran out! It made it through almost 3 kids in diapers! I'm getting another jar since my youngest is only 15 mo and we have another on the way, I figure it should last me  :-j
