bottle and breast

I EBF, I have been pumping and LO gets a bottle at night from DH so I can go to bed alittle early. We give her 3oz and she does a very good job finishing it all. I have two questions.
1) those giving bm bottles how many oz are you giving LO
2)how many bottles are you giving each day

LO is 5 weeks 3days btw.

Thanks :)

Re: bottle and breast

  • LO is 6 weeks today . I only pump. I give about 6-8 bottles in a 24 hour period. She gets 2 oz bm and 3 oz form every 2-3 hours
  • Loading the player...
  • LO gets 1-2 bottles a day depending if we go out somewhere. He is 5w5d and gets a 3.5 or 4oz bottle

  • LO gets 3oz of BM. I pump most of the time and give a bottle. I finally got him to latch on twice today.

  • I pump mostly so my mom and DH can help feed and BF during the night. LO eats 5oz per bottle and eats every 3 hrs

I meant I BF exclusively during middle of the night feedings
  • We are still trying to get LO to take a bottle we do it in the evening when my husband is home around 7-8. He has taken it great a couple times and eats about 4-5 oz but most of the times he throws a giant fit and I give in and we waste the bottle. Or he will take like and oz or two and wait for me to feed him. Still a struggle

Dang occasionally I'll have my husband feed baby at night and she takes 2 oz and seems content with that. I can't imagine her eating 5 oz! But she's little and I don't want her overfeeding!
  • I EBF but I gave him a bottle and he took 4 oz. we are 6 weeks. I can only assume he's getting close to that at each feed every 2-3 hours. Although this week he's eaten every hour it feels like.

When we give DD a bottle, I offer as many ounces as hours have passed since her last feeding but no more than 3 ounces. Usually we stop her after 2 and wait ten minutes before offering more to avoid over feeding. She seems pretty content with this plan.

Personally I think 5 ounces is over feeding at this stage if the game. Kelly mom has a bm bottle calculator that is useful.

We also do paced bottle feeding at home and I'm going to ask daycare to do the same. There's a YouTube video if people are interested

Ditto this. Paced feedings help LO realize he is full before he over eats.

You can't overfeed a breastfed baby.

We've only given DD2 a bottle twice and she took 4oz both times.

  • I've done some 2-3oz bottles with paced bottle feeding, and LO was still looking for more after.  The one time we did a 4oz bottle he was pretty satisfied.

  • I did alittle over 3 oz last night and my DH said she seemed satisfied I think ill keep it around this and slowly build up I just didnt know if I was under feeding her...its also hard to pump that much more then 3oz.
