Doesn't care for sippy cup

My DD is 8 months old and I've been giving her the Nuby sippy cup (one with handles and soft spout) filled with water and she still doesn't do much other than play with it.  When did your LO start actually drinking from a sippy cup? Every once in a while she'll clamp her mouth down on the spout and just hold it. lol if she does get any water she acts surprised and tosses it aside

    Never mind... After reading more of another post I think I'll try out the Playtex Lil Gripper cups and see if that helps!

    I give my LO the same cup - if it has breastmilk in it, she can hold it and drink 4oz. on her own.  If I give her some water in it after she eats, she keeps dropping it.

    This is what I was going to suggest and straw cups are better for speech development.

    I started giving my son the same sippy cup at 5 months with water, just to introduce it to him and he didn't really do much with it. but after he turned 6 months i got a nuk sippy cup and he's been using that one for a little over a month now, and he loves it. he'll drink out of it and everything

    Definitely give the straw a try! I give DD the soft spout with water in the car (so she doesn't jab her eye with the straw) so she has something to chew on, but at home we use a straw cup. I gave it to her once and she got it right away, so I definitely recommend it!

    For DS we tried every cup ... Every cup ... He would not even touch one until he was 12 months old. DD seems to like the take and toss cups but we mostly just play with it right now.

    Both my kids would only drink from straw cups.
