Holy meltdown :-/

So we missed LOs bedtime by 45 minutes tonight because we are dedicating her at church this weekend and went to set up for the luncheon.

She was well fed, comfy in her carseat but as usual refuses to sleep if not at home.

She started to meltdown in the car and by the time we were home it was the worst meltdown we have experienced to date. DH was even flustered.

Are we ever going to be able to be out of the house after 7pm without a babysitter at home with LO. I feel like we are never going to be able to eat dinner out again let alone have a fun family evening out on the town. :-(

  • Hang in there friend! Babies are feisty! I am sure however LO will grow out of this.
Also - while I know it's not ideal or as much fun, have you thought about going out earlier? Like 5ish? Not as much fun but at least you could still enjoy a good meal out!

DH usually gets home around 530 so earlier on weeknights and Saturdays isn't an option. We have do a couple "early bird" 4pm dinners on Sundays but that's rare cause we usually aren't hungry yet. Lol.

I just keep thinking it will get worse cause her bedtime will likely move up (it's currently 730-8ish) even earlier soon.

Mine refuses to nap anywhere so we normally get a cranky one if out for more than 2 hrs. Feels like I'm trapped in this house some days.

I know the feeling. DH keeps telling me just to go out but this was first meltdown he experienced so now e understands

  • I kind of know the feeling. LO was doing OK sitting in her car seat, but lately she's been crying every time, no matter what time of day. She can usually calm down if someone sits with her in the backseat and distracts her, but if I take her out by myself, she'll cry like crazy at least part of the time. I hope she grows out of it as she gets older, but in the meantime I'm not sure what to do since I can't always have someone accompany me.

  • We don't go out after 7 either unless my mom is watching him at home, since she knows how to get him to nap and sleep. We also don't go anywhere with him for longer than 2hrs because he won't nap in the stroller or carseat. Unless wherever we're going has a swing [he WILL nap in that] we can't stay unless we want a scream fest and horrible night's sleep.

  • Oh if anyone knows your pain, I do!! Both my kids sleep terribly outside the house and a lot of parents don't understand. I get a lot of comments like - just put him in the stroller. Yeah right. I learned a long time ago that the screaming is not worth it. Yes, we have had a few years of rarely going out late without a sitter but all in all, it does get a little better. We would go out to eat earlier which is better for toddlers and restaurant customers anyway. And I just tell myself it isn't forever. Good luck!
