3 yr old wants to know how babies get in bellies....

lately we've been floating the idea to our 3 year old about having another kid- would she like having a sibling, would she like sharing her stuff with a baby, etc- just to see where she stands on the issue. Well, know she keeps asking me "how do we get a baby in your belly?" and I am totally lost for what to say. I literally have said "I don't know" or quickly changed the subject because I dont know what the age appropriate response is. We explain everything to her, she is very inquisitive and understands a lot, but I am at a loss of how to explain this... any ideas? :)

    Hm that's a good question.  My 3 yr old has never asked me, but I would probably say something like, 
    the baby grows in the belly because their mommy and daddy (or partner or whoever) love each other very much? 
    lol that's a terrible answer but it might satisfy a 3 year old!

    DD1 asked a while ago how babies get OUT of mommy and I told her the truth. but then, just last week, she asked how they get IN. I definitely wasn't telling her all the details on that one. I'm a total chicken and just said "magic" and that was acceptable to her. I hope I don't get asked again for a while!

    I asked my mom when I was 2. She gave me the mommy and daddy love each other line, which I didn't buy. So, she told me what really happens and I never bothered her about it again.

    With my 5 year old I said the when a mommy and daddy love each other, he gives her a seed which is planted in the belly and grows into a baby.  And I felt truly lucky she didn't ask HOW he gave the mommy the seed!

    LOL. I still remember the awkward silence when I asked my parents, "If the egg in in the mom and the sperm is in the dad, how does the sperm get to the egg?" I think I was around 7 or 8 and very interested in science. 

    My DD1 has asked that question about how she and her sister got in my belly. I tend to go with simple but factual. That their daddy helped put them there, and they started out very, very small and then they grew and came out when they were ready. She didn't ask for further specifics.
