Food Allergy

New here...nut allergy

Found out today my 11.5 month old has a peanut allergy. After talking to her pediatrician I'm pretty overwhelmed with it all. I have gone through my cabinets reading the back of every box.

I need a good resource on where to go to start trying to figure out how to manage this allergy.
Thanks so much!

I don't have a resource for you, but just wanted to say take a deep breath and let you know you will figure it out. My DD was diagnosed at one with a peanut and tree nut allergy. It took some time to get used to it, but honestly it was way more manageable then her egg allergy. I believe that peanuts are one of the more avoidable allergens. Good luck!

  • The FARE website is really helpful. They have info on each of the Top 8 food allergies. You can also sign up to receive email notifications when a food product is recalled due to undeclared allergens. They also have a sheet you can print out that helps you to know what ingredients to avoid when you're grocery shopping.

Were you prescribed EpiPen Juniors? Do you know the proper dose of Children's Benadryl for your LO, if you need it? Have you seen a Pediatric Allergist? A Pediatric Allergist is better trained to provide detailed information, since that is their specialty.

My last bit of advice is to always ask about ingredients when eating out, or eating in someone else's home. My LO's have multiple food allergies, so I ask to read labels when we eat at family/friends' houses. My LO's can't have dairy or soy, and those are often "hidden" ingredients. I can't rely on others to know what to look for, so I check the labels, and/or bring food I've prepared myself.
