Adoption

does the homestudy need to be redone ever?

I'm concerned because I might get laid off.  Which is not the end of the world (I've accepted since my freak out post), but since the homestudy was done based on our finances with my job included, do I have to report it to the agency? and do they need to redo the homestudy with the new information?   I now worry that it might impact our chances of getting matched which is more concerning then in loss of income.

Thanks!

  • It has to be updated perhaps as often as every 6 mnths. You also may need to do an addendum for a major lifestyle change...and a loss of jobs might qualify.  The upside is that you can now advertise yourself as a stay at home mommy to be.   At least for now.

  • I wouldn't think that the whole thing needed to be redone but just updated.  I would def think that your agency would need to know that infornation.

  • just updated and you not working might actually be a benefit :) i know that staying at home benefited us for our foster care agency. and we've had our homestudy updated twice already. :)
  • Our home study was finished in April of 2006.  We had to have it updated when we started the process again after a failed adoption in May 2007.  I think they have to be updated at least once a year.

  • My agency made it sound so simple, just like they open a word doc, make the simple edit, print, and homestudy is redone - in two minutes!  I may be wrong but I don't think it's a big deal at all to have changes.  They would have to resend wherever it needs to go though.
