Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Is this a normal sleep regression?

First off I appreciate any advice!
How long do sleep regressions last were going on 6 weeks now? Lo was starting to be transitioned to the crib 6 weeks ago max time he would spend in there was 3 to 4 hrs then he would go back in the rnp. So total he would be up 3 times a night once to feed. 3 weeks ago he started rolling. So now we stopped the swaddle and put him in the rnp as he was doing terrible with 2 changes. Now to this week he is up 6 to 8 times a night. Some times after 2 hours sometimes after 30 mins. I either go in to pop a paci in, rock him etc. It just keeps getting worse. He now eats 2 times a night. He is rapidly outgrowing the rnp and looks terribly uncomfortable. He now has dark circles to match mine. What can I do to help him if anything. I know lack of sleep is unhealthy for a baby and want to do all I can for him. Thanks ladies.

Re: Is this a normal sleep regression?

  • He is about 3.5 months. 3 weeks out of the swaddle. He's back in the rnp about that same time due to to many changes. I wasn't expecting him to roll this soon and was hoping to get him adjusted to the crib first. Since he rolled 1st priority is the swaddle then the crib.

you don't mention if he's crying every time he wakes up -- if he's awake but not crying i'd leave him alone and let him learn to fall back asleep on his own. if you keep going in to pop in a paci and rock him, he will learn to expect that. i try to give my son a few min to see if he works it out on his own. i never let him scream and wail, but he fusses once or twice a night for about 2-5 min, then goes right back to sleep. i think if i went in i'd be doing more harm than good. a couple times i've been really close to going in and by the time i get to his door he's back out. he'll be four months next week, so fairly close in age to your LO.

  • He's crying real hard once I get in there. I get really no fussing in between. At times it scares me out of sleep thinking something is wrong. He has not mastered putting himself back to sleep yet.

  • Ooph, I am sorry, that sounds really difficult. Unless you think he could roll in/out of the RnP, can you swaddle him in there? The shape of it makes it hard for babies to roll in it. Or maybe try something like the Baby Merlin Magic Sleep Suit in the crib. It will be difficult for him to roll in it, and muffles his movements so he is comfy, secure and doesn't wake himself up with flailing. Though if he is really crying that hard so often at night, maybe there is another reason he keeps waking up. Like maybe teething or reflux?
  • I think teething might be the answer my mil pointed out a white spot on his gums today. He's been on meds for reflux since 4 weeks. Thank you ladies!

  • At 3 months my LO started waking up every 2 hours on the dot at night time. I would try everything to get him back to sleep but he only wanted to nurse. He's 4 and 1/2 months now and it still hasn't let up. The doctor says it's probably a teething thing. I just go with his flow. I know this won't last forever and he will eventually sleep. My best advise to you would be to keep him in bed as long as you can in the morning. I keep mine in bed for twelve hours before we start our morning routine. This way I know we both have gotten enough sleep. good luck and make sure your partner is taking some of the turns.
