Tips for stranger anxiety?

M is 8.5 months.  His stranger anxiety has kicked into high gear for the past 2 weeks.  

For example, if I'm in the supermarket check-out lane and the lady at the register says hello to M, he'll start crying (even though she's couple feet away).  Or like yesterday when I was at a cafe getting a cup of decaf, the barister said Hi to M and he cried.  These people aren't even touching M or shoving their faces at M.  Does this get better?  I kept telling M that "it's okay" but he'll keep crying until I move him away.  Ugh. M used to beam this HUGE smile at everyone; now he always look so serious and suspicious at anyone who isn't familiar to him.

This Sunday we are going to DH's boss's house for a cook-out.  It's gonna be a ton of people; and even though M had met some of them, it's been 2 months since.  I'm worried that he's going to have a hard time with all these strangers around him plus being in a new environment!

TTC since 10/2008  RE consult 6/2010 Dx:Unexplaied IF

Failed multiple cycles of Clomid+TI and Clomid+IUI

3/2011 inj+IUI #1 BFP. 4/2011 missed m/c.

    DS2 is REALLY bad about it and does the same thing when strangers talk to him. He erupted during lunch today. Thank goodness DS1 is such a flirt, or we'd be in real trouble. Honestly, the only way it doesn't happen is if I'm wearing/holding DS2. He is usually pretty smiley with strangers if he's in my arms- and only mine. He'll still do it with DH.

    It does get better, but it's a nasty phase!!

    E went through this a bit, but seems to be growing out of it already. She still gets shy around really big/tall men. But she's doing much better. Hopefully M grows out of it really soon.
