What's your baby shower theme going to be?

I'm Team Blue and since my SO trains horses and team ropes for a living we are going to have a Western Theme Baby shower! I'm curious to know what everyone else is planning to have!!! <3

Re: What's your baby shower theme going to be?

  • That's cute! I love your theme! My sisters are planning it so I have no clue, but we are team green so I don't even know that we will have a "theme." I'm not a big theme person in general.

  • Yah-my friend told me yesterday that "I don't know your baby shower theme!!! There is so much to choose from!" Should be fun though! Western is super cute. I have a friend who recently had twins that came up with some really cute stuff for her western theme. :)

  • I'm a STM, but this is my DH's first and it's been 19 years since I was pregnant the first time.  I suppose there might be a shower on his side of the family, but I'm not planning anything myself.

  • My family is doing a book theme. They showed me the invitations and they ask the guests to bring a book for the LO with a note in that instead of a card. I'm really excited about it!
  • My sister told me Dr Seuss, which is also our nursery theme, or bow ties. It's not until October so she hasn't decided yet.

  • I'm not sure since I'm not planning it.. but for sure the theme will be "let's make sooz as uncomfortable as possible by gawking about her"

This is 100% me. I was just informed by family that they're throwing a baby shower for me. First boy in the family so I'm sure it'll be something masculine. I just hope the cake is good.

  • Sadly, I don't think I will get a baby shower. I just moved to my current city less than a year ago so I don't have many friends here and otherwise my friends and family are spread all over the country. I am sad about it, not because I want the gifts (we don't mind buying the things we need) but just because it seems like such a fun way to mark a big life event with your close friends and family.

  • I know it's in October and probably either a Christmas theme or the lion king theme to match nursery. It's up to my mom and sister and I have a hunch that's what they will do. Doesn't matter to me! Just hope the shower is quick and painless. As someone who used to love being on stage, being the center of attention makes me very uncomfortable now! Lol
  • My theme is 'Everyone hope and pray this baby is born healthy and alive'. Because of my loss history, the mothers are involving me in the planning, I'm sort of telling them what I'm comfortable with and what I'm not, which makes it not a surprise which is fine with me.

I think we're going to do a couples thing, my husband is in charge of setting up activities for the guys which I'm sure will entail sitting on the deck and drinking beer more than anything.

My sister is throwing me a Beatles-themed shower for my friends. She found the CUTEST invites that say, "Here Comes the Son" and have all sort of Beatles song title wordplay. Here's a link. Super cute!

  • My mom and MIL are planning my shower, and as of now, all they plan on doing is buying either pink or blue things like balloons, table cloths, and the cake probably. Pretty simple, I doubt most of the people will even care since they're all going to be staring at me anyways. ugh.
    Welcome Lily Anna!

Cute theme, though the book instead of a card thing is very tacky/rude in case you didn't know.

ETA: A good book is much more expensive than a card that you can get for a dollar. For example the very hungry caterpillar is like $20 so you're asking your guests for something more expensive and you should never tell people how to spend their money... you'll either pressure guests into getting you nice books (gross), or get 5 copies of goodnight moon that have been written in and cannot be returned, or get a bunch of dollar store books that are just crap that you won't want anyways.

A really cute idea I love is that the host provides a really nice children's book (the places you'll go, or something like that) and use it as a guest book and all guests can write a message on a page. It's nice because it doesn't pressure guests into purchasing an extra gift and your child is much more likely to keep it forever.

No shower for me since I'm a STM but I love the themes "A star is born" and "She's about to Pop" with a popcorn bar etc. hahaha I'm saving them to use on my sisters if they ever have kids lol

Mother basically said people should give the gifts after the baby is born and not before as she would feel obliged to buy for the shower and for the first meeting, and she added something about it being an American thing, by which time I had stopped listening.
  • i have no idea. nobody has said anything to me about a shower, aside from the passing comment when i first found out. who knows.

This is my really sad face, :( I'm not excited about any packages we may get I want to eat yummy food and visit with family. I view a shower as a final goodbye to to a couple and hello to a family. My shower is going to be all about good food, lots of pics, and happy memories. The present just an extra. I'm srry that sucks.

My sisters are planning it and they haven't told me anything.
  • Um, I've never heard of showers having a theme. I thought the theme was "hey this girl's having a baby, so lets throw a party and get them stuff".

  • I'm just blessed someone is planning one for me! Both of our families ar out of state as are the majority of our friends. But my neighbor, who I've gotten close to since she moved in with her partner and their son last summer, wants to do it so I'm thrilled! And I was surprised that I have several on my list to invite. I have no idea on the theme but likely she hasn't done any planning yet. Our nursery is ocean/nautical with our colors bein aqua, gray, and pink so maybe she'll include that. I'd like to do a co-Ed thing but it isn't up to me :) My work throws showers for all pregnant mamas...I'll be the 8th one since i started teahing there last October! Usually those are just girl/boy colors.

  • Not sure of the theme since I'm not throwing my own shower, but I did tell my mother and two best friends that I love yellow, gray, white and elephants! So we shall see.

  • I am not sure if there will be a theme to any of the showers that are being thrown for me.  Right now I have had 3 different groups of people offer to throw me a shower (co-workers, my mom, and my DH's family).  I don't care if there is a theme to any of the showers or not.  I am just floored that so many people have offered to throw me a shower.

Honestly, I'm not planning it and it was their idea and they were really excited about it. They aren't asking for specific books, so guests are welcome to spend whatever they want, just like with the registry - or bring nothing at all, I'm just excited to celebrate with our families. I've been invited to book showers before and never thought twice about it. I'll agree to disagree on this.
  • I have no idea what the theme is as again, I'm not planning it. Some of my best friends, including this LOs godmother and also my SIL have offered to throw one for us even though I'm a STM. I have no clue what the theme will be or when it is, though my BFF/Godmother of baby mentioned October?

Now, if they asked me what I wanted, I would say I would love a coed football watching party. :) With some presents and football tailgate food!
  • My mom is throwing mine. Thinking about a little pumpkin them since it will be in the fall.  PS. I don't think asking for books is rude. I love that idea and will probably do it, too.  I have been to showers were it is done and love it.

  • No idea. It's our first and we've been married for 10 years. I do know my inlaws are throwing one in September, my family and friends are planning one in October, and my school family (I'm a teacher on a staff of 65) will throw one sometime before December. Also a lot of time our class throws a shower too. We are very blessed and overwhelmed.

As an avid baby shower board lurker this made me LOL.
Not planning it, so don't know. Hinted to my mom to have no theme though.
  • I'd like my theme to be dips...preferably with cream cheese and sausage...hence the football watching party. LOL

I don't know if I'm having one. My sister mentioned it in the beginning and I said if they really want to plan one to make it a small sprinkle shower. It hasn't come up since. If they decide to plan one then that's okay. If not, then it's okay too. I won't be involved in planning though. I had to plan a shower where the mother picked the place, the date, the food and hinted at the theme. I spent hours planning that theme for them to call me and say they wanted something else. They also told me they wanted assigned seats and made the seating chart for me. Then I got phone calls weeks before asking if I did the favors yet and when I planned to do it. It was majorly annoying to have someone planning what you were supposed to be doing. If someone wants to throw me something I want no involvement.

     imageimage

  • I don't think anyone is planning a specific theme. I know one shower will incorporate our nursery colors but that's about it. I am enjoying not be involved in the planning so far.
