Exercise tips/ideas

I had my monthly check-up yesterday and everything was great with baby, however, I went in to my appointment and didn't get my regular doctor! Considering she was a younger woman, I assumed she was in training but she TOTALLY slammed me about my weight. I'm not OVERweight. I'm a little chubby. And I haven't gained a lot of weight very quickly either. I actually was losing weight when I found out I was pregnant due to nausea, I stopped drinking, watched what I ate, etc. I know doctors aren't there to sugar coat things for you, they tell you how it is, but yesterday's visit got me feeling kinda sh*tty. So my question is, what do YOU guys do for exercise? I really don't want to join a gym so any at-home or outdoorsy work out tips would be nice. :)

During pregnancy, brisk walking can be great!  No equipment needed except a good pair of shoes.  Or you can do squats or lunges with just your bodyweight.  You could try pushups on your knees and work on going all the way down to the ground.  As you get stronger, you can extend your legs.  There's a lot out there that you can do at home with no weight or equipment.  Good luck!

I like to walk and walk/jog. I was a runner prepregnancy. But jogging for a few hundred feet or so at a time seems to help me get my heart rate up a little and up until just recently, not leave me too winded.
I also like prenatal yoga and there is an awesome group of women that I join sometimes on Tuesdays here in Olympia. But you can check for prenatal yoga videos on amazon or something if you liked it and wanted to try it at home.
I also bought an elliptical from walmart several months ago and use that every so often, but not as often as I ideally thought I would. :) But it was a good deal, like around $150, and is a decent enough little machine for my taste. I hope you find some things you enjoy doing and are able to stick with it! Sticking with it is the best thing and the hardest thing I think sometimes! Good luck! :)

  • Just get moving, and do whatever is comfortable for you. Make a goal to do a certain activity each day (as PPs have said, go for a long walk), and make sure that you're keeping a healthful balance of food in your diet. I'm 34w2d and I'm still going for jogs twice a week, elliptical once a week, and lifting weights for an hour at a time four times a week, however, I was doing all of those things and more before I became pregnant. What one pregnant person is doing will not work for another because it's so dependent on what your lifestyle was like pre pregnancy. I've heard great things about prenatal yoga, starting out as a beginner, and you can't go wrong with a good, long walk outside!

Good luck and stay active! You'll be happy you did!

Walks are my new favorite thing. When it's nice outside I go for. Few a day, but DH and I always go for one after dinner. I also keep light weights by the tv so I I'm going to be a bum, I can at least be semi-productive.

  • I loved this workout DVD. https://sarahaley.com/product/expecting-more-dvd/

And I did TONS of walking up until I delivered. I wasn't as fast as in the beginning, but it was still a great workout and got me moving.

  • Awesome! Thanks everyone!

Finally finished the baby registry today and spent a good 3 hours walking around Babies R Us so I got in a good walking sesh.

Always enjoyed yoga but stopped due to a wrist injury a few years back. I'll look into it again!

  • I work full time and have two little ones (and just found out I'm expecting #3) so I work out at home.  I love it!  I do 60-90 day programs that include weights, kickboxing, cardio, and stretching/yoga.  Once I got into a habit, I found out I like working out.  Any activity is good!  I'm also a personal trainer, so I would stress strength training and yoga.  Walking is also a great way to be active!
