BD & $

BD's FB status from this past weekend:
"Went to the fair for two hours and spent $300 on the kids."
24 people liked it and one person commented "You're such a great dad!"
Really? Really??
Today he tells me this himself, and says that the $300 was spent on two games trying to win the kids a stuffed animal...
And he says he bought his mom a $600 handgun as a late Mother's Day gift.
Yes, this is the same guy who bought a monster truck lives with his parents.
Priorities...

Truth. I have no idea how I dated him for 3.5 years. DH says he gets confused each and every time we have an interaction with BD.

I get completely bewildered all the time when we deal with BM.  DH swears she was never like this back when they were dating.  But how do you hide crazy for 2 years?

DH probably had on rose colored glasses. I sure did with BD. Looking back, I can't believe how foolish I was! I got DS out of it though, and that sweet boy is worth the world.

That's what I've always wondered!  Although, if you place pictures of BM pre-divorce next to current ones, you'd never think it was the same person.
Oh, oh, post a before and after! I'm so curious now.

MIL said there was something about BM that rubbed her the wrong way, but she chalked it up to how flighty she is.  In 2 years she bounced from job to job (a total of 5 jobs I guess) and started vocational school but quit, and had to borrow money to pay off the loan she took out.  FIL never liked her though.

DH says BM didn't get bad until after he made it clear they weren't getting back together while she was pregnant with K (they were already broken up when BM found out she was pregnant) but she was manageable.  She didn't really go off the deep end until DH and I got engaged.

I didn't realize they split before finding out about K's pregnancy. BM probably had some delusion that her and DH still had a chance, so when you two got engaged it was the eye opener for BM that it was never happening, ya know?

I don't mind tattoos (I have two of my own) but I prefer that they be meaningful, and are somewhat easily covered up when needed. I don't understand the flower vine strangling her arm... Preferences, I guess...

  • I missed the picture and I am not pleased.

As for tattoos... I have 5 myself, and 2 of them are really large.  I have a phoenix on my ribcage and yes, cherry blossoms on my upper back.  I don't judge tattoos.

What I judge is people getting tattoos and not paying their regular bills...

Amen to that. I would like some more, but right now our money is much better spent on other things. @jobalchak I'm guessing your tattoos mean something to you, versus "Hey that looks awesome I'm getting that!" No judgment if it's the latter ;).

  • On an unrelated note, I spent 10 minutes picking out siggy pics, uploading them & resizing them, opening them in a new tab, and then pasting them all in my siggy and all I have is four little won't load picture icons. What did I do wrong??

I got my phoenix after I finished school and after my divorce.  For me it was a "rebirth" of sorts.  The phoenix has 3 tail feathers (one for DS, DD, and for a miscarriage I had).  I'm having 2 more tail feathers added for Emery (my recent miscarriage) and PJ.  I got my cherry blossoms after my cancer diagnosis and when I started treatment.  I got it to illustrate how short life is and also the strength and dominance of women.  I kind of merged the Japanese and Chinese meaning of cherry blossoms onto my back.

My fairy on my lower back was totally a "Hey I'm 18 and I want to be a badass" move though.  I'm getting that covered soon...

Uhh, I realllly want new ink.  I was literally setting up an appointment for my next one when we got an unexpected bill.  So there went that.  When DH settles into his new job, I told him he owes me at least the smaller one I want right now.

And @jobalchak I'm jealous of the phoenix.  It's one of my sorority's symbols, and I've always wanted one.
Same thing happened to me. And I need one of mine touched up BAD. DH's actually has no tattoos, and I would like for him to get one (or more haha) and he says "I feel like I've reached the point in my life where I'm too old to get a tattoo." He's not, but whatevs.

DH says if he ever got something, it would be that, as well as a religious one. I want a couple-y one but would want us both to get one, otherwise I would just feel weird about it, ykwim?

  • My DH has several tattoos and I finally got one. Mine is a symbol for peace in another language. I like it because it makes me feel centered and Remus me to have peace of mind. I have a bunch more that I want to get. Especially a dandelion wish that turns into three birds, one for DH, DS and SS on back. I just haven't gone yet. I think some tattoos on guys are hot....

  • I have one tattoo on the lower back (though not middle).  I got it way before they were called tramp stamps.  Hell, I got mine when it was not cool for women to have tats.  Hell, I got mine when tats were not cool period. (yes, I AM that old).

And I do judge people who get tats but do not pay for the rest of their responsibilities.

Yeah, I've thought about maybe our wedding date?  It could be small, or I've seen some cool ones where they spell out the date: "september twenty-ninth two thousand twelve"
That might be my favorite idea right now.

That's neat - where would you put it?

DH & I have talked about each others names - but wait - it would be on our ring finger on the underside underneath our wedding bands. So it would be 110% for us because no one else would ever see it or know about it unless we were like "Hey watch me take off my wedding ring and look at the palm of my hand - I have SO's name!"

    Haha.  Just imagine it.
First photo:  No makeup.  Naturally brunette hair to her shoulders.  Tee.  Mom jeans.
Second photo:  Bustier, with chains.  Heavy eyeliner and red lipstick.  Cherry red hair in a faux-hawk, two or three inches long.  Cherry blossom tattoo covering her entire arm.

Your story sounds similar.  When I first met BM, I seriously questioned my own relationship with DH.  Then I saw the old photos....

That is a crazy transformation! I look pretty much the same as I did in high school so it amazes me when people morph like that.

As for couples tattoos, I think it is cute when people get something symbolic of them. I saw one couple that both had a swallow (the little birds) on different places of their body but it was the exact same tattoo. DH and I are probably going to get our names, but in my native language. It is written in characters so it is very cool looking and not so obvious.

Ahh I love both of those couple tattoos!

A funny couple tattoo story - Both an old friend of mine and her SO/BD got matching infinity symbols, because they were going to be together forever. They broke up two months later. lol

I like the inner arm placement.  That way it could be covered up with some short sleeves, and it's not really obvious unless you raise your arm.  But it's still visible, which I like for tattoos that have real meaning.  I don't want to hide every tattoo I ever get.  Right now, you'd have to see me in a bikini (ha!) to know I have any.

I like the wedding ring ones.  We've toyed with the idea of getting each other's initials under our rings.

My brother and I want to get matching ones too.  Our initials are A and Z, so that would be fun to do something with.  We also found a really cool compass with the Peter Pan quote "To live would be an awfully big adventure."  We adored that story when we were little, plus the quote is just awesome.
That sounds amazing, and I really want you to get it now lol. Could you put A & Z on the compass?
