OB close to work or close to home???

The OB/Gyn I have now, I love! A friend used her for her pregnancy and raved about her so I'm excited to use her now that I'm expecting. Problem is, I work an hour from home and my doctor and the hospital she has proviledges at are by my work, not my home. I really dislike the hospital close to my house and don't want to change my doctor. Do y'all think this will work out okay?

Re: OB close to work or close to home???

  • I'd stick with the one close to your work. It will make prenatal appointments much easier to manage and since you already have a relationship with the doc, it sounds like the best way to go!

  • If you like that hospital better and you like your OB I would stay with them.

  • I agree closer to work sounds better for appointments, plus you'll have plenty of time to get to the hospital once you go into labor (most likely).

  • I'm in the same situation, except I like both hospitals the one 2 blocks from my job, and the one 10 minutes from my home. I'm nervous not necessarily for appointments, but for when my water breaks, I plan to stop working around 7 months.. So should I choose the hospital closest to my home?? I live about 45 minutes from my job.. Thoughts?
  • Thanks y'all, makes me feel more confident in my decision!

Jasminesessoms Make sure you check that your doctor has privileges at both! That might make the decision for you.
  • I don't see a problem.  You'll probably be coming from work for most of your appointments so that's convenient.  Also when it comes time to delivery, most likely you'll have plenty of time to get to the hospital before giving birth.  With DS, I went to the hopsital right when my labor started and they sent me home.  11 hours later, we went back to the hospital and I didn't give birth for 9 hours.

  • Close to work.  Most monthly checkups and the biweekly's are super fast and can easily be done on a lunch break.  I try and take off as little time as possible for appointments so I have more available once the babe is born.
Well, we're on our way to 3 kids, 3 and under.
Set to welcome the craziness in April 2014!

My doc is near my office. I'm about a 30-45 drive from home (on good days). At one point my doc delivered at hospitals near home and office but now she only delivers at hospital near office. I love my doc so I told my husband that I wanted to stay with her. Before our BFP, my husband wanted to deliver in Denver proper and not the burbs. I know, silly. There was no discussion when I told him how much I trust my doc and I've heard the hospital near my office is great.
