Pain in the...hip?

So last night I was having a really hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep.  Laying on left/right side, w/ w/o pillow btwn my knees, I had this pain right at the front of my hip joint.  If I sat up "criss-cross applesauce", pain went away.  It wasn't like a cramp, more like when I had growing pains as a kid, but still I'm a bit tweaked...  9weeks today, and don't even know when the 12-week u/s will be(first appointment is Tues 8/6 @ 10wks, with a CNM so there won't be an u/s)... that's a long time to wait and wonder...

Feel free to tell me that I'm cra-cra/overthinking, or that it's perfectly normal sounding pain to you...

Re: Pain in the...hip?

  • P.S.  I asked the nurse at my ObGyn yesterday if I could use a heating pad.  She said yes on my back, never on my front.  When I said my lower back hurt she asked if I was having spotting/bad cramping -- so I suppose if you're having those symptoms you should call your doctor ASAP.
  • Thankfully no spotting/cramping

  • Depending on the location & the severity, they actually have a term for it.  Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction...and regardless of what the "usual" time frame for it is, I got it each time very early on.  2nd Tri for #1, 1st Tri for #2 & this one.  Some women have more of that hormone & have problems earlier.  It can make walking, sitting, sleeping difficult, stairs a nightmare, getting in & out of low-to-the-ground vehicles can be hard, too.

When my chiro would work on my hips, it'd usually cramp afterwords, and the results never lasted long, b/c, hello, hormones.  So I used one of the tricks he suggested, laying on my back, knees bent, feet spaced about 6 inches apart or so, & place a semi-squishy/semi-firm ball with some give, like a volleyball or kickball between your knees, & then SQUEEZE slowly but firmly.  It almost always popped my hips back out into place, & it's cheaper than running to the chiro every week!

If this sounds familiar (the pain/issues), it's worth trying the ball.

This may seem like a silly question, but are you hydrated? I seem to ache more when I'm not drinking enough water...it seems crazy but it's an easy fix for me.

  • @jwhutcheson I hope so, nearly 3 liters while just at work yesterday!

@Kedra321 That sounds horribly painful - and (at least at this point) it doesn't sound like my hip pain (which has subsided as of this morning).  I think I'll be working on some of the stretching and strengthening exercises I saw on WhattoExpect.com, just in case!
