SDs not having fun this summer

SD is bummed because this summer isnt as fun as it normally is. We moved to get a third bedroom for DS and this house kind of sucks compared to our old house. There aren't any kids to play with here. I asked if they want to set up a sleepover with our old neighbor but they were meh about it (so its partially on them too). Our vacation was a total bust, we went to see DHs family and there was a ton of drama. No one had fun.

We typically do a lot more in summer, I don't know why we haven't this year. This weekend we are going to try to go into DC for some monuments/museums. Next weekend DH is taking them camping. I just feel a little bad. They are getting to the age where they want to hang out with friends so we are already battling that, plus we've kind of had a sucky summer. Ugh.

Hopefully DH is successful this spring when he looks for jobs up there again. It'll be easier if we are close to their house, their friends can sleep over and stuff.

    We did that one last summer. We're waiting to go again until SD2 is old enough for us to do the mission option. I think we might do the newseum, I keep hearing good things.

    I just feel so bad. Everything is free in DC so there's no excuse except DH and I are tired.

    I loved the Neweum but don't know your SKs ages and interests. I want to bring my kids to the American History Museum.

    I'm sorry. That is hard for kids and stressful for the NCP. We always tell our SS we can set up things with his friends from school since we don't live far but he always says he just wants to hang out with us. It is sweet but soon he will be a teenager and I don't want him to be bored or resent having to come over.

    What a bummer :/. Can you find any groupons for fun stuff to do? I buy groupons not because they're cheaper, but because it means I've already paid for something and it forces us to do it lol.
    DS used to dread visiting the ILs because they would just sit around and talk, and that's boring for a 4 yo. The weather is almost always blah when we go, so that sucks too. I started buying groupons for things in their area before visits, so now we have things we are already paid and "committed" to do. This next visit I have a cooking class, paint your own pottery, and mini golf lined up.

    I just emailed DH, I've been urging him to take the girls to the movies but he says he wants all of us to go. Not realistic with LO. I suggested taking them to the movies tonight, going fishing at the park tomorrow afternoon (LO and I can stroll), and newseum on Sunday. We need to make more of an effort, I think we just got in a rut.

    I hear ya!  I would love to take the kids to do something fun but funds are low.  I was sick and missed a ton of work and BD owes me a tidy sum from medical and day care expenses.  Ugh.
