Bottle help!!

I have been trying to get LO to take a bottle he's 7 weeks and been EBF so far with the exception of trying bottles here and there with pumped milk. I tried avent, tommee tippee, and dr browns. He takes dr browns the best out if the three so I'm gonna stick with those I think. I make sure I'm out of the house when my husband offers him it he chews on the nipple and doesnt really get the suck down and after a long time of trying he drinks less than an ounce and becomes agitated. Then he eats like crazy when I get home. Any suggestions or tips that worked for you would be greatly appreciated. By the way I'm a stay at home mom And just want him to be able to take the bottle so my mom can watch him for me every now and then sometimes or for outings when I'd rather bottle feed.

Re: Bottle help!!

  • I am really no help, as I have the same issue and O won't really take the bottle. I have heard though that introducing different nipples confuses them and to find a bottle and stick with it- and offer them that one bottle. Not sure if that is true, but makes sense.
With that said- we have only offered O the medela calma bottle. He has only taken it twice for MH, and I was out of the house with my mom. He said he had a few issues with it, but eventually took it and drank 7 oz!! I haven't offered the bottle any other time, because it's just easier for me to take my boob out and feed him, vs pump and warm the milk and then fight with him to take it. It just seems like so much work. haha.

O really doesn't even take the paci- he takes it ok for MH and DS2, but if I try to offer it to him he won't take it. He knows mama doesn't give him that crap!

  • My LO won't take the paci either we have some smart babies! I've also heard to stick with the same bottle, good luck to you too.

  • My LO took his first bottle last night! We tried last week to no avail. I did some research and watched a great video on YouTube about how to bottle feed a breast fed baby. It was so helpful. The woman is wearing a green shirt and using a baby doll if you want to watch it. We ended up using the 0-3 month Medela nipple and it worked fine!

  • Also, encourage YH to feed him more. He may just be favoring you and YH and him need to learn each other and what works for them. DH's feeding style is totally different from mine but DS gets fed and burped and is happy so that's what matters.
