With my dwindling supply, I've cut one pump and then waited a couple of days and cut another. I must add that I was never producing much (6-8oz/day and then down to 1.5oz/day at 1 pump/day) so I don't know if my experience even applies.
    3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

I believe that taking Sudafed (regular dose, regular use) can also help dry things up...and green cabbage leaves in the bra (odd, yes, but true) can help with engorgement and pain.  ((Hugs))

I went from pumping 8x a day down to 3x and that was enough to relieve the pain.  I pumped 3x a day for about 4 days, then went down to 1x a day.  I did 1x a day for about 3 more days and then quit.  I still leak a little bit, especially when I first get out of the shower, but that's it.  The last time I pumped was about a week ago.

D sort of did it for me.  He nursed less and less (teething) and before I realized what was happening, I had very little output.  I pumped for a couple weeks, but was traveling at the time and eventually threw in the towel a couple weeks shy of my goal.  To get things 'dried up' (and I'm using that in quotes bc nearly 10.5 months later I can still hand express a drop if I try), I pumped only to relieve discomfort (just enough to take the edge off, not emptying the boob).  I was struggling to pump a few oz a day, so it didn't take long.  I didn't see the need to put myself through discomfort, it didn't really make a difference to me if they dried up that day or a month from then.
