Can't go potty...

Ok, I just don't like the word "constipated"....it's so nasty. But, seriously...anyone experiencing this? Was thinking I had a bump already...but after learning my uterus is not that high...it must be something else! I just wanna "go"...and get rid of this belly that looks 6 months pregnant! Next appt is Wednesday...was hoping someone already had a doctor recommend something otc that I could try now!!

Re: Can't go potty...

  • I'm having issues too.  It's not fun.  My stomach is currently making all these gurgling noises.  Ugh.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've been eating raisin bran...maybe I will switch to Cheerios!
  • Thanks...I like "potty" better. : )
  • The orange Fiber Choice tablets...they taste good, & you don't HAVE to drink a full glass of water with them, just munch after breakfast, or dinner, whatever.  Push the fluids...babies always seem to suck the moisture out of you, & that impacts going to the bathroom, too.  And, a salad never hurt.  I had Fiber Choice the other day, followed it with a salad that night, & my problems were over the next day early on.
  • Flax. Flax seed in drinks, smoothies, water. Flax in cereal. Fiber fiber fiber.
And maybe a little bit of coffee for good measure. That has helped me a bunch.

  • Fiber one cereal saved me with my first kiddo and I've eaten a bowl a day since then! My ob is super natural and recommended it. Lots of water too!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • I know this might make some of you gag, but I've found that Sunsweet brand prunes help me. They taste really good to me too. It's like my treat now; I just eat a few with my prenatal at night. And drinking a cup of coffee in the AM helps! I talked to my doc yesterday and he said that the progesterone hormone in pregnancy slows things down a good bit.

  • My dr has ok'd Colace. That can help too.
  • Lots of good advice here... I was going on 3 days and miserable. I've added 48oz of green smoothie a day and at least 2-3 other fresh fruit. I also use benefiber in my decaf coffee each day. Walking and other cardio can stir it up for me as well. Oh, and I've also found eating popcorn in the evening has helped. Good luck!!

Right, it's way more fun to sound like a three-year-old.

This is how I feel as well. "Potty" isn't more polite or anything. And "needing to go potty" passes on the same image as "constipated" so both should be considered nasty.

  • LOTS of fruit and veggies!

  • Lots of good ideas above. Nothing's been a magic bullet for me, but a cup of real (not decaf), strong coffee in the morning seems to do the trick sometimes. And drinking LOTS of water.

  • Someone posted a "bowel recipe" on another board I am going to try.  1 cup wheat bran (I'm going to use flax), 1 cup apple sauce and 1/4 c prune juice.  Have 4 tbsp a day...supposedly it will keep you regular!  Good luck!

Medically appropriate terms are so nasty.....wait, what? Do you also say wee-wee and hoo-hoo?

This just makes me SMH. We are all adults, let's try to use our big-girl words.

  • With DS my midwife suggested taking acidophilus probiotic supplements and that really helped with poop.  I'm starting to take it regularly now as well.
  • Eat more fiber, drink lots of water, try a cup of coffee.

PS: "Constipated" is way better than "can't go potty"...

PPS: Raisin Bran has a lot more fiber than Cheerios.

  • OH I also heard cherries really help!  They are in season now and a yummy snack.
  • I drink prune juice often. Works good!
  • I've been having Grape Nuts (28% of daily fiber) with craisins in the morning and that's been helping. Decaf or caf coffee can help. Also I've been trying to stay away from cloggy foods like cheese and dairy, but that's pretty hard.

  • Drink lots of water! Don't eat a lot of cheese.

I read this and thought, "no cheese?" OMG I think this baby must be 50% cheese at this point.

    :o3
  • Buckwheat pancakes and ground flaxseed would do the trick :)

  • I've been having major bathroom issues myself. It's awful. I eat a salad every day and I drink tons of water. I'm starting to eat cereal every morning as well--I'm hoping that helps! Well see!!

  • Sounds like a couple gals really have some issues...hope your hormones and attitudes are the result of being pregnant...otherwise I feel so sorry for people around you. Gosh, get your panties out your ass. How is that for a big girl word??

seriously! who cares! how is a personal word preference hurting anyone!? I personally can't SHIT either ( like that word?) and I'm much more concerned about everyone's solutions to that problem, not the great language debate!
  • I get a lot of exercise (at least an hour and a half, every day, weights and cardio), eat All The Fibrous Things, and drink All The Water. Usually regular. Not so far this pregnancy. 11 weeks tomorrow, and I joke that my "bump" is more food baby than uterus. (; I don't eat much cheese, and would consider cutting it out altogether, but sometimes it's the only palatable thing that helps me choke down food. :/

    TOTES!!!!
  • Get a cereal that had TONS of fiber in it.  Kellogg's make a fiber plus one.  Kashi has a bunch.
Have a small hot cup of caffeinated coffee with it.
Blueberries, prunes, tons of water, and watermelon help me.

When you are trying to go put your feet up on a stool or trash can so your knees are crunched up. Sometimes that helps me too :-)  Relax and spend some time just sitting there.

I had a very bad experience with constipation when I was 11 weeks pregnant with DD. I thought i was going to have to go to the ER and have them remove it. It was honestly a close second pain-wise to giving birth. I am doing everything possible to stay regular!!
