Working Moms

two year old grumpy at daycare....what can I do?

DD has loved her DC for most of her little life.  She started going to her DC at 10 weeks.  She's had a few unpleasant phases.  She was not napping well for a while, had runny poops until we eliminated juice from her diet, and went through the enevitable always sick phase between 6 and 12 months old.

She's two now.  For the past two weeks, she has been cranky more often than not at daycare.  I asked if there were any changes to routine at daycare - this daycare is quite structured.  DCP said there hasn't been much for changes except that a little boy started a few weeks ago who wines for his mom all day.  DD may be picking up on this.  I used to drop her off.  She'd say good bye to me and begin playing before I left.  Now she clings to me and wines throughout the day.

We spent the first two weeks of July traveling, visiting relatives etc.  Then I was gone for four days last week.  She gets more undivided attention (and late bedtimes and more freedom) with DH.  I feel like some of the crankiness is adjusting to the home and day care routine again.  Still, I'm frusturated with her behavior at daycare.

II'm open to any suggestions for ways I can help her (and daycare!) have easier days.

Thanks!

  • Based on your comment about later bedtimes and visiting relatives, I wonder if she's a bit overtired from being off routine, and staying up late?

Sleep, and lack thereof, very strongly influences my LO's behavior. Even as little as an hour short at night leads to a noticeably crankier toddler.

I agree. Thanks! DH has been out of town these past three days.  With a quieter house, I'm trying to really stick with routines.  She's going to bed at her normal time for  me, but plays in her crib for a good 45 minutes afterwards.  Like the other PP said, I may just have to ride this out.  I know she's a bit tired....
