Medela bottles but another nipple brand, anyone?

Hi DS is giving me a hard time with bottles. I go back to work in 2 weeks and needed him to take the bottle. Tried a couple but didn't work. Since last week I stuck with the medela bottles and regular medela nipple. finally he started to take it. First he pushes it with his tongue like for 2, 3 min, and at some point he latches. But the slow flow medela nipple is a little fast for him. Milk comes tru the sides of his mouth. I really rather not buying more bottles, my counter is full of baby feeding stuff. Does anyone uses the medela bottle with a nipple from another brand that has a slower flow? TIA.

  • I haven't mixed bottles and nipples, but we use the playtex cheapo brand bottles and I know that the medela tops fit on them (have a few that came with the pump and will use them when I'm pumping at work), so I don't see why the playtex nipples wouldn't work on the medela bottles.  We've never had an issue with the flow on the playtex bottles and it's great that they're some of the cheapest ones out there.

  • Thanks! Do u mean the ventair? So they attach to the pump as well?

  • I use Medela with dr browns preemie nipple but I had to buy the bottles as I don't recall seeing the preemie nipple sold separately.

  • Yes, someone told me once to try the premie nipple for dr. Browns. So do you use just the DB ring or the medela ring? And if you use the medela ring, does it leak? Also, do you like how the baby latches? Because I saw them at BRU they do sell them separately but dr. Brown standard nipples are tiny with almost no base at all. Have you had any problem with you LO latch? Thanks, I may try this nipple first, since I have so many medela bottles, I rather avoid having to buy a different bottle.

  • Doc Brown collars will fit on medela bottles but the Dr. Brown narrow neck nipples won't fit into Medela the wide mouth collars. You can get the preemie nipples on amazon here ($2/each), and collars here($1/each). Evenflo collars also work on Medela bottles. I don't know if their slow flow is slow enough for your LO. Nipples here and collars here. But given the price of Even Flo bottles, buying a multi-pack of evenflo bottles might be more economical.
  • Thank you so much for the links!

  • I tried Dr. Brown nipples with Medela bottle and collar and it didn't work for me. Probably have to have the Dr. Brown collar too.

  • The regular Gerber and Evenflo nipples I think fit on the bottles too.
