GD - Minimum # of Carbs

I was wondering if anyone else was told they HAD to have a minimum of 175 g of carbs a day? I was borderline diabetic before pregnancy so I had a very low carb diet (around 90 g/day). I have to almost double that according to the GD classes. I am finding it hard to eat that many carbs. Has anyone heard differently?

  • I did what I could last time. Particularly at the end I couldn't eat a lot.

  • Thanks. That is how I feel too. Eat as many complex carbs as I can and not stress when I don't hit the number. I can do around 145 g without misery!

  • I think my max was actually only 120 with my first, and 150ish with my second. I had the lowest carb allowances I've ever seen on this board, though. I would just do the best you can and make sure the carbs you are able to get down are good ones.

  • I've wondered this also. From what I understand, the biggest deal is that you don't have ketones in your urine, if you dont then you are okay at the number of carbs you are having. But like I said, I'm not completely clear on this either.

  • I wasn't given a total per day, just a total per meal/snack

    breakfast - 15
    snack - 30
    lunch - 45
    snack - 15
    dinner - 45
    snack 15

    that's 165 total, but I am supposed to eat according to the meal plan/schedule.

    Same with me.  My breakfast and morning snack numbers are different than yours, but my total comes out to 165g per day.

  • I'm set at 2,000 calories a day with 13 serving of carbs a day which is 195 grams a day. I get 30 grams of carbs with each meal and one meal with 45 grams. I don't really COUNT each serving. I go based off my blood sugar and so far I haven't had any spikes so I just eat carbs with every meal and try not to over due it. But I'm at the point where I really can't eat a lot of food in one sitting so it is getting harder to eat that many carbs.
